Megan Champlin is very excited to be joining the Marlboro Central School District as the new elementary band director this fall! She has been teaching for 14 years and holds both her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Music Education from The Crane School of Music at SUNY Potsdam. Megan has prepared ensembles for various festivals, including the Long Island Music Festival, Suffolk County Music Educators Association Festivals, NYSSMA Solo Festival, NYSSMA Majors, and local All-County festivals, receiving gold and superior ratings at every major festival attended. She is also a past Educational Director for the Orange County Music Educators’ Association. Megan has experience conducting All-District Elementary Jazz Band and Middle School Jazz Band and has served as the color guard director for Hauppauge High School’s marching band. Megan is an active performer in the Hudson Valley, playing horn with groups including the New York Wind Symphony, Northern Dutchess Symphony Orchestra, and SUNY Ulster Community Band. She has also been invited to guest conduct the Suny Ulster Community Band, as well as the Orange County Music Educators’ Association Elementary All-County Band and Suffolk County Music Educators’ Association Elementary All-County Band. Outside of teaching, performing, and conducting, Megan enjoys spending time with her husband and two young daughters. She is looking forward to making music with her students at Marlboro Elementary School and meeting everyone in the school community!

The MCSD Band Day took place on Friday, April 24th. Students in 5th grade band, 7th and 8th grade band, and high school band students participated in the day. Led by our band faculty, Mr. Braunstein, Mr. Forrester, and Mr. Povall, students had a chance to play with members of the band program from other buildings and collaborate on in their music making. Secondary students also spent some time preparing for the upcoming parade featuring the MCSD Marching Band.

Kudos to all the students & teachers for another successful band day! 🎷🪇🥁🎺

The music department recognized our student of the month at last night’s Board meeting. We also took a moment to highlight Music In Our Schools Month by having the chorus students across all three buildings performed “I Sing Because I’m Happy.” Finally, all students who participated in honor ensembles such as All County Chorus, Band, Jazz, Area All State, and All State were recognized as well.

Congratulations to all!

This Saturday 16 4th grade students participated in the annual UCMEA YEMS festival at Miller Middle School in Kingston. Students participate in the song, classroom instrument, or dance workshop. They spend the morning learning the activities with the clinicians and share their learning with families in a performance at noon. Congratulations to all the students who participated and a big thank you to the MES music teacher, Ms. Johnston for her work to organize this for our students and to Dr. Hu who was the song clinician this year.
