Last night was Music With Sarah Piano Studio’s first piano recital since I starting back to teaching in January 2024! I’m exhausted now, but was so excited about this celebration for my students & their accomplishments. I realized a few nights ago while preparing my opening speech that if you count all of my previous recitals, this was my 10th! 😳 WOW!

I have always suffered a little bit from impostor syndrome at just about everything I do. When I first started teaching here in CR in 2011, I always considered that I was probably one of the “lesser” teachers in the area. But as I get older & see the progress & success of my students, I realize that I’m actually a pretty great piano teacher! None of this is to toot my own horn, but I’ve had several of my past students go on to major in music in college! Kids just naturally love me as I tend to have a playful, fun personality. One of my strongest gifts is encouraging others & that pairs very well with teaching, especially when students are hard on themselves like I have been hard on myself in the past & learned to work through it. It’s easy for me to help others see the good in themselves & encourage them to try hard things (after we’ve broken them down step by step). All of this is just to say I really love teaching. I think it’s something God has gifted me for & led me to.

Here are some photos to commemorate this special occasion & all the fun we had! Our 2025 piano recital was movie-themed. We served popcorn, cupcakes, lemonade, & bottled water. Each table was decorated for a specific movie. We had a red carpet & paparazzi present. 😉😂 And the whole thing started with an awards ceremony style opening credits video. There was a photo booth for pictures, a fancy sparkly backdrop with a balloon garland, & Playbill programs.

But MOST OF ALL, our students performed WONDERFULLY!!! They each went home with a movie kit fit for kings & queens, complete with a popcorn bucket, microwave popcorn, mini popcorn seasonings, movie candy, mini sodas, a photo keychain to commemorate the event, a trophy, & an extra special gift.

I have the best job in the world! I just adore ALL of my students & I’m always so in awe of their hard work & progress! It’s truly amazing to see & witness what some of them can do! Thank you students, parents, grandparents, & friends for your support of these kids! What a success this recital was & it truly is because of all of you! ❤️

Meet Sarah!

Hi there! My name is Sarah Ehlers, and I am the owner and instructor at Music With Sarah Piano Studio. I began teaching music lessons when I was in high school. My band director asked if I would be interested in teaching some beginning flute players. I agreed and in the process, I found something I was good at and loved doing!

I attended Lincoln Christian University in Lincoln, Illinois from 2001-2005 where I studied music ministry. Although my major was not piano, I learned so much more about music than I could have ever hoped or imagined. I moved to Iowa when I accepted my first worship ministry position in 2006. At that time, I also began teaching piano and voice lessons. But it wasn't until I got married and moved to Cedar Rapids, Iowa that my love for teaching piano really blossomed.

My husband and I moved to Cedar Rapids at the very end of 2010. I began dabbling in teaching a tiny bit during that year, but in 2011 is when I really started building my business. Over the course of 10 years, Music With Sarah Piano Studio grew to over 40 students at its max! I have taught all ages, levels, and abilities from 3-year olds all the way up to mature adults. Beginners are my favorite to teach, but I also truly enjoy teaching worship piano as well.

At Music With Sarah, I strive to make lessons relevant, motivating, and enjoyable with the primary goal of developing lifelong musicians. I believe the programs offered are one-of-a-kind and will prepare kids for a love of music that lasts a lifetime.
