Meghan Elizabeth Carey Dershem, age 34, of Indianapolis, IN, and formerly of Prospect, OH, died unexpectedly, Monday morning, April 15, 2013, at the Community North Hospital in Indianapolis, IN.
On August 16, 1978, Meghan was born in Marion General Hospital, the daughter of Patrick and Cheryl (Meinrod) Carey of Prospect, OH. She graduated from Elgin High School in the Class of 1996, where she was active in the choir, musicals, and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
Following high school, Meghan continued her education at the University of Findlay, earning her bachelor's degree in Social Work in 2000. She was a member of the Sigma Kappa Sorority there. She earned her master's degree in Social Work in 2002 from the University of Tennessee.
Upon the completion of her studies, Meghan moved to Indianapolis, Indiana, in 2002, where she finished her clinical work to be a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) at the Adult and Child Mental Health Center. She quickly found that she had a place in her heart for her clients, which she treated as if they were family. After ACMHC, she worked at Tangram, and for the past year, she has also dedicated herself to her clients at Midtown Community Mental Health. In addition to her positions at Tangram and MCMH, for the past six years she has worked at Supportive Systems as a crisis counselor, whenever they had a need arise they knew they could count on her. Always putting the needs of others before her own, she never missed work because she knew her clients counted on herand she never let them down.
Further trying to improve the lives of her clients, Meghan served many years on the Board of Directors at the Social Health Association of Indiana.
Through the help of their co-workers, Meghan eventually met the man she would form a great connection with, Aaron J. Dershem, in 2009. Being wonderful compliments to one another, Meghan and Aaron, were married on June 9, 2012, at her parent's home in Prospect, where there were "fireworks" both literally and figuratively.
Growing up, Meghan was active in the youth program at the Epworth United Methodist Church in Marion, where she developed her faith and many friends.
With a passion for traveling, Meghan traveled the world as much as possible. She enjoyed traveling all over Europe, from Greece, to Australia, Spain, France, England and Turkey. She also loved going to the beach and lake any time she could, enjoying many trips to Dale Hollow Lake with church and family friends, and Folly Beach, SC, with her parents and family.
One her proudest accomplishments, Meghan trained for months and was able to complete a half marathonproving she always followed through with whatever she set her mind to. She also was an avid Ohio State University Buckeye fan, and quickly fell in love with the Indianapolis Colts after she moved to Indy.
The "nicest person you could ever meet", Meghan had an infectious smile that would light up everyone in the room. She also was very easy going and quiet, but could be known to be a little set in her ways.
She will be dearly missed by her husband, Aaron Dershem of Indianapolis, IN; her parents: Patrick & Cheryl Carey of Prospect, OH; three siblings: Erin (Jason) Stone, Scott (fiancée Patty Nabors) Carey, and Molly (available) Carey, all three of Lebanon, TN; a niece, Emma Stone; mother-in-law, Teresa Dershem of Nappanee, IN; father-in-law, Lewis Dershem of Nottawa, MI; brother-in-law, Cameron Dershem; and many dear friends.
