She came, she created, she changed the game.

Happy 235th birthday to the visionary Elizabeth Sprague Pitcher Taber, whose generosity and steadfast belief in the power of education led her to found Tabor Academy in 1876.

Far ahead of her time, Elizabeth established Tabor as a coeducational institution and explicitly called for the school and it’s leadership to keep growing, improving, and expanding its reach.

150 years later, her legacy continues to drive Tabor’s mission, and lives on in every student, staff, faculty, and family who is, has been, and will be a part of the community she envisioned.

Did you know that Seawolves engage in "greeting ceremonies?" When pods come together after a time of separation, they exhibit playful, exuberant behavior and "greet" each other before continuing on their respective journeys.

Tabor Academy Seawolves are no different.

Campus may look a little quieter in the summer but big things are always happening behind the scenes. This week, our new Dean of Academics Brianne Foley met with Tabor alum and Circle of Excellence awardee Mark Parsons '86 to tour and talk about a future partnership between Tabor academics and his organization New Bedford Research and Robotics. NBBR is a non-profit laboratory with a mission to provide and streamline access to frontier technologies through education and skill creation, economic empowerment, and corporate engagement. Its New Bedford facility can be utilized for everything from industry research to providing educational programming and we can't wait to see where this partnership takes us!

If freedom were water, it would teach us that movement delayed is still movement, that memory travels through generations, and that dignity, like a tide, eventually meets the shore. This work reminds us that humanity connects us to others, and humility creates the space to truly encounter them as ourselves, and to consider, with honesty and compassion, what it must feel like to stand on one side of the water or the other.

Please join members of the Tabor community on Friday, June 19, from 12-4:00pm for a casual summer afternoon barbecue on the waterfront as we honor the past, stand firm in the present, and cast our hopes into the future.

This summer, the SSV Tabor Boy will sail from Newport to Bermuda and join celebrations surrounding America’s 250th Anniversary.

Along the way, you’ll have chances to spot the ship at races, tall ship parades, and open boat events in ports across the East Coast.

Come cheer on the crew, explore the schedule, and follow the journey of Tabor’s iconic schooner this summer.
