The team of professional trail builders from Trail Dynamics are on the ground in Old Fort! Owner Ed Sutton (center), and lead builders Marco (left) and Pablo (right) started this week on the 4 miles of easy hike/bike trails for the new Old Fort Gateway Trails.

This is the team behind many classic Western NC MTB projects, including Cherokee’s Fire Mountain Trails and the new Jackrabbit Trails. These local guys have made magic over the years working in Pisgah and the Grandfather District, and we can’t wait to see what they create as they turn flag lines into purpose-built trails!

The build is really picking up steam now and we are so excited to continue sharing the stoke with y’all!

Moving forward!!

Old Fort Trails Project Approved and Funded!
Construction of First 6 Miles Begins Immediately!
 
Today, we joined with the community of Old Fort to announce plans to build 42 miles of new, accessible trails for people of all abilities and backgrounds in Pisgah National Forest. The US Forest Service has formally approved the plans, and funding for construction of the first six miles of the system has been provided by the Dogwood Health Trust. Groundbreaking on the Old Fort Trails Project will begin in January 2022 and the first sections of trail and parking area are slated to open by late summer.
 
This is not just another trail project. This is history in the making.

Ok, everyone has already been asking. “When is the next trail classes?” We are pleased to announce the next Basic Trail Construction courses will begin September 12, 2021. But wait, there’s more, Intermediate Trail courses will begin in October or November. So stay tuned for the exact dates for intermediate and other pertinent information about all of these courses coming in the fall, and how to register.
