Timberline Manufacturing is a local company in Marion that provides electrical assembly contract manufacturing specializing in wire harness assembly, control panels and circuit board assembly. The company has customers spanning many industries including aerospace, mining, road construction equipment, agriculture, and packaging.

The company just hosted the Digital Electronics class from Linn-Mar Community Schools for two days, one day as a tour of their facility and the second day in the classroom. Students learned all about what Timberline does, the industries they serve, and what future careers are like.

Students have been working on constructing a new garage at the current Marion Community Build home and got to take part in the inspection today.

The class is most definitely learning life lessons by getting to experience new construction and renovating the home on this lot.

Today marked the first day at the Community Build Home for the 23-24 school year. The second home was completed in January 2023 and just happens to be up the street from the house that will be renovated this year!

Ten students from Marion Independent School District and Linn-Mar Community Schools will be working on this home throughout the entire school year. Can you imagine all they will learn!?

Marion Community Build is a partnership with the City of Marion, Marion Independent School District, and Linn-Mar Community School District. The program works to purchase deteriorated single-family homes for students to complete full rehabilitations that support low to moderate-income individuals and families.

High school students in grades 10-12 can now apply for a job shadow through Kirkwood Workplace Learning Connection until September 22nd at 3 PM.

Job shadowing gives students the opportunity to explore careers of interest, network, and connect classroom learning to real-world opportunities. Both in-person and virtual opportunities are available.

The Southeast Iowa STEM Hub will host a Community STEM DAY on July 13th from 9 am-1 pm in the Collins Aerospace C Ave Complex, Building 112 Parking Lot. This event is open to the public and 100% free of charge to exhibitors and participants.

Students from both Linn-Mar Community Schools and Marion Independent School District had their first official day working at Mercy Medical Center. These students all completed a Kirkwood Academy this school year in the healthcare field and are now putting the skills they learned to use!

We are excited to have played a small part in connecting these groups and are excited to hear how the summer goes!

Join the Venture Behavioral Sciences team and the Public Library on May 2nd from 5:00-7:30 PM for an exciting and informative event called "Recognizing Your Resources: Marion Mental Wellness Fair", where attendees can explore table displays from various organizations dedicated to providing mental health services and awareness.

The fair will include various informational booths from therapy and counseling centers in the Marion area, representatives from Iowa State University, Foundation2, NAMI, Tanager Place, Waypoint, and other organizations. There will be door prizes and an introduction from Mayor Nick AbouAssaly.

The event is open to everyone, with activities and resources for all age ranges. The purpose of this event is to help individuals in our community gain awareness of mental health issues and resources for themselves as well as to support those they care about. It is vital to the health of all members of our community to feel connected and supported.

Check out this inspiring story about Brooke Hernandez, a Fabrication Specialist at Marion Process Solutions:

Brooke Hernandez knew at a young age that college wasn’t for her but wasn’t sure what that meant for her future. She ended up in an elective welding class during her senior year of high school as a last-ditch effort to uncover a potential career path.

“Welding came so naturally to me, I got really into it and decided to pursue a nine-month pipeline welding training program at Hobert Institute of Welding Technology in Ohio,” said Hernandez.
