🏆🩺 Medical Terminology Project Winners! 🩺🏆

Our Level 1 Health Careers Academy students have been working hard this week putting their medical terminology knowledge to the test!

Their challenge? Create a training poster that could be used to teach a new healthcare employee medical terminology!

Students had to go beyond memorizing definitions and find creative ways to explain medical word parts, connect them to healthcare, and make learning easier for someone else.

Once the projects were completed, we let our Level 2 students be the judges and vote for their favorites! 🗳️

🏆 Congratulations to our three winning projects! The creativity, effort, and attention to detail were impressive!

I love seeing our students take what they’re learning in the classroom and turn it into something that could actually be used in the healthcare field!

👏 Great job to all of our Level 1 students who worked hard on their projects, and thank you to our Level 2 students for helping select the winners!

🪖🩺 Army Medical Simulation!

Our Health Careers Academy students had an awesome opportunity to experience the Army medical trailer and participate in a hands-on medical simulation!

Students got a glimpse into healthcare in a military setting while learning about Army medical careers, emergency care, teamwork, and working in a mobile medical environment.

We also got to have a little fun and test our power! 💪🥊 Everyone had the chance to hit the punching bag and see what power score they could get. There was definitely some friendly competition to see who could score the highest!

It was a great experience combining healthcare, career exploration, hands-on learning, and a little competition!

Thank you to the U.S. Army for bringing this experience to our students! 🇺🇸

During our 8th Grade Tours, Health Careers Academy had a very important patient stop by for a check-up… our very own building principal! 👏🩺

Our HCA students had the opportunity to show off their healthcare skills while giving our future students a look at what hands-on learning in HCA is all about! ❤️💛

🗣️ Communication is more than just talking!

HCA students put their communication skills to the test with a fun Back-to-Back Communication Challenge!

During the first round, Student #1 had to describe an image while Student #2 attempted to draw it — without being able to see the image or ask ANY questions! ✏️🤐

Then we changed the rules! During round two, Student #2 was allowed to ask questions and clarify the instructions.

The difference in the drawings showed just how important clear directions, active listening, asking questions, and clarification are when communicating.

In healthcare, effective communication is essential for patient safety and teamwork. A simple misunderstanding can make a big difference, so learning to communicate clearly — and knowing when to ask questions — is an important skill for our future healthcare professionals! 🩺❤️

🩺❤️ HCA Students Taking the Lead!

Our Level 1 Health Careers Academy students participated in their first round of 8th Grade Tours today! They took over several stations throughout the HCA lab, giving visiting 8th graders a hands-on look at some of the awesome things we do in Health Careers Academy.

What our students may not realize is that while they were busy teaching and demonstrating, they were learning too! 👏

By leading these stations, our students were building:
🗣️ Communication and public-speaking skills
⭐ Leadership and confidence
🤝 Teamwork and collaboration
🧠 Critical thinking and adaptability
👩‍⚕️ Professionalism and employability skills
❤️ The ability to educate and connect with others — something they will use every day as future healthcare professionals!

One of the best parts of career-tech education is watching students go from learning the skills to confidently teaching them to someone else.

Our Health Careers Academy seniors continue to build their phlebotomy skills, and the successful blood draws keep coming! 🙌

Each successful stick represents more than just hitting a vein—it’s confidence, communication, patient care, safety, and hands-on practice coming together. ❤️

We are so proud of the progress these future healthcare professionals are making as they work toward completing their required live venipunctures and preparing for their Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) credential!

Our Level 2 students are continuing to build their phlebotomy skills, and those successful sticks are adding up! 🙌

It’s exciting to watch their confidence grow each time they step up to the phlebotomy chair. They’re learning that every draw takes focus, communication, professionalism, and a whole lot of practice.

💉 Level 2 has officially started LIVE STICKS! 🩸

Our Level 2 HCA students are continuing to learn and practice their phlebotomy skills. As they successfully complete their required skill checkoffs, they earn the opportunity to perform blood draws on real people—and we already have successful sticks! 🎉

Each student is working toward completing 30 successful live venipunctures as part of their phlebotomy training. That means we need lots of willing arms! 💪🩸

We have plenty of learning and practice ahead, but it’s exciting to see our students begin putting their skills into action and building confidence with every successful draw.

We’re excited for everything ahead this year — new skills, certifications, clinical experiences, and plenty of hands-on learning along the way.
