Summer is winding down, but the learning never stopped! ☀️📚 Whether it was diving into a great book, exploring the outdoors, or helping out around the community, we know our Breakthrough students have been growing all summer long.

As we gear up for a brand new school year, our team is getting the classrooms ready and planning incredible new projects for our students. We can’t wait to see the energy, leadership, and big ideas our students will bring back to the halls this year.

We currently have a few spots remaining in Kindergarten, 4th grade, and 7th grade. As a tuition-free, public charter school in Marion, we are dedicated to providing a rigorous, project-based education that prepares our students to be leaders in Perry County and beyond.

Hey Breakthrough Families! 🎒 Take advantage of Alabama's Tax-Free Weekend to stock up on your uniforms and school supplies!

Here is a quick look at the approved uniform items that you can easily pick up locally:

👕 Tops - White, black, maroon, or gray collared shirt
👖 Bottoms - Khaki, gray, or black pants / shorts; khaki skirt (No shorter than 2 inches above the knee. No leggings or spandex.)
👟 Shoes - Any closed-toe shoe

Please join us in welcoming Jackie Bretl to the Breakthrough Charter School Board! 🌟

Jackie brings an incredible depth of experience to our community as a former teacher and school leader who has served students from elementary through high school across the country. Currently the Senior Director of Leader Development at New Schools for Alabama, she is deeply passionate about creating equitable learning experiences for all children.

Having known Breakthrough and our founder, Darren Ramalho, since our very beginning, Jackie has been a longtime believer in our mission.

"I believe now, as I did then, that Breakthrough is uniquely positioned to provide an excellent education and opportunity to some of the most underserved children and families in Alabama," Jackie shared. She also admires our community's resilience - our ability to respond, flex, and keep moving forward in service of our students.

With her expertise in school leadership and effective board governance, Jackie’s personal mission aligns perfectly with our work here in Perry County. We are so grateful to have her guidance and passion on our team.

As a proud native of Uniontown and a product of the Perry County School System, Shamonica brings a deep, personal commitment to our community and the future of our students.

With over 15 years of experience in child welfare, two degrees from Alabama State University, and the vital perspective of both a Breakthrough parent and a social worker with Perry County DHR, she understands exactly what it takes to support the whole child.

Welcome to the Breakthrough family, Kathryn Lenoir! 🎉

Ms. Lenoir is joining us as our new Elementary Special Education Aide, bringing with her a wealth of experience. She has been dedicated to working with children since 2007, teaching students of all ages from birth all the way through 12th grade.

When asked what she is most looking forward to, she shared:
"I am excited to be a part of the Breakthrough family and all the challenges that come my way in molding young minds. My favorite part about teaching is seeing that light turn on for the first time, knowing they learned something new! I look forward to helping my littles reach their goals and grow every day!"

Ms. Farelus is joining our team as a Special Education Teaching Assistant. She brings 5 years of valuable experience in education - including 2 years as a PreK Auxiliary and 3 years as an In-School Suspension Teacher. With an Associate of Science in General Studies right here from Wallace Community College Selma, along with her Child Development Associate (CDA) credential, she brings so much care to our students!

Welcome to the Breakthrough family, Ms. Amber Hale! 🌟

We are thrilled to introduce Ms. Hale as our new 3rd Grade teacher. Entering her 6th year in the classroom, she brings a wealth of experience and a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from Judson College.

When asked what she’s most excited about this year, she shared: "I’m looking forward to helping my 3rd graders strengthen their reading skills, spark their imaginations, and celebrate every milestone along the way. It’s going to be an exciting year full of learning, growth, and great books!" 📚✨

We can't wait to see the incredible impact she'll have on our students!
