Have you ever seen this snotty wool-like brown stuff growing in Lake Superior or nearby streams? Rock Snot, also called didymo, is a type of stalk-forming algae that can grow into dense mats and disrupt aquatic ecosystems. Here we are investigating impacts to bugs (macroinvertebrates) in streams, an important part of aquatic food chains and ecosystems. Remember to decontaminate your gear between bodies of water to stop the spread and keep our waters healthy!
