The ultimate goal of Taekwondo is to develop the character and personality of the practitioner through physical, mental and spiritual discipline. Taekwondo combines combat techniques, self-defense, sport and exercise. It is also a form of meditation and a philosophy of living. By 1989, Taekwondo became the world's most popular martial art in terms of number of practitioners. Gyeorugi, a type of sp

arring, has been an Olympic event since 2000. At Monterey Bay Taekwondo Academy, our mission is to teach Taekwondo with high standards which will instill in our students traditional values, respect, discipline, confidence, and compassion for all living things. Students will learn to set their own goals in life and overcome obstacles and struggles with dignity and honor. Students will gain confidence and self-respect. Here are some of the benefits of learning Taekwondo:

Exercise: Our programs are an excellent source of overall physical exercise. It will promote flexibility, strength, energy, and a healthier you. Focus: Taekwondo helps improve your concentration, and increases your attention span and retention. Stress: Taekwondo reduces stress levels, lowers your blood pressure and ultimately helps you to stay healthier. Self-Defense: Taekwondo is a great way to learn self-defense techniques in order to keep yourself and family safer. Discipline: Our program can teach your kids to control their behavior and fosters their ability to react in a positive and peaceful manner. FUN: Taekwondo is a fun after school activity for kids to run around and let out all their extra energy before they go home.

What a week!!! Our MTA Sparring Team had 3 students compete at Nationals in North Carolina with over 3,000 competitors this past week and did we show up!! All 3 of our competitors fought their way to the finals! We came out on top with 2 gold: Asia B. And Elliot L. And 1 silver: Antonio P.

To say we are proud is an understatement. Amazing job to all of our competitors for representing MTA. A thank you to all the parents and family members for getting our athletes to where they needed to be to compete at this level. Thank you to all of our instructors and fellow students who helped train and motivate our students. A special thank you to Master Lee for always being our students’ biggest cheerleader and best coach.

Once again congratulations to our competitors for showcasing all of your hard work at Nationals! Back to the mats as we train for next year! MTA!!

On Saturday we had our in house tournament! MTA came and conquered with 21 golds, 16 silvers, and 4 bronze medals. We are so proud of each competitor. It was a great way to showcase each student and their love for taekwondo. We hope you can make our next in house tournament! This past weekend TeamMTA took 9 competitors to California State competition! Everyone did such an amazing job. Despite the outcomes we are so proud of everyone. There were many close calls and really great performances by each and every athlete. This year we really saw the growth everyone made since last year’s state competition. Great job to everyone!
