🐝✨ What’s all the buzz about at Casa Montessori?

This week, our children enjoyed a special bee presentation, exploring the fascinating world of these tiny but mighty helpers! 🌼

The children learned about the life cycle of the honeybee, from egg → larva → pupa → adult, and discovered how bees travel from flower to flower collecting nectar and pollen while helping to pollinate the plants that provide many of the fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, and flowers we enjoy. 🌎🌸

There were plenty of fun bee facts to discover! 🐝

👀 Honeybees have five eyes - two large compound eyes and three smaller eyes.

💃 Bees can dance! Honeybees use a special “waggle dance” to communicate with one another and share directions to good sources of food.

👑 A honeybee colony has one queen, while thousands of female worker bees gather food, care for young bees, build and clean the hive, and protect their colony. Male bees are called drones.

🍯 Honeybees make honey from nectar they collect from flowers and bring back to the hive.

🪽 Honeybees can beat their wings around 200 times per second, creating that familiar buzzing sound!

🌈 Bees can even see ultraviolet patterns on flowers that our eyes cannot see, helping guide them toward nectar.

🔷 Their honeycomb is made of remarkable hexagon-shaped cells, allowing bees to store honey efficiently while using very little wax.

🌍 There are more than 20,000 known species of bees around the world, and many of them do not make honey or live in hives!

Experiences like this bring nature and science to life, inviting children to observe, wonder, ask questions, and develop a deeper appreciation for the interconnectedness of the living world. 🌿✨

We are so grateful for our tiny but mighty pollinators and everything they do for our planet! 🐝💛🌎

🎂✨ Happy Birthday, Dr. Maria Montessori! ✨🎂

Today we celebrate 156 years since the birth of Maria Montessori, whose careful observation of children transformed the way we understand childhood and learning. 💛

At Casa Montessori, her work comes alive each day as children explore, concentrate, move with purpose, build independence, and learn through meaningful hands-on experiences in a carefully prepared environment.

Today, our children also took a special moment to learn about the woman whose vision continues to shape classrooms around the world. 🌎📚

Happy Birthday, Maria Montessori. Your legacy lives on in the hands, hearts, and minds of children everywhere. 🌿

✨ Purposeful work, meaningful discovery. ✨

In our Montessori Primary environment, this child, age 3, is exploring the Brown Stair, a material from the Sensorial curriculum.

The ten wooden prisms are all the same length while gradually increasing in thickness. As the child carries, compares, grades, and carefully arranges each piece, she is learning to notice and compare differences in thickness and dimension while also refining coordination of movement, concentration, and a sense of order.

Montessori Sensorial materials are intentionally designed to isolate one quality at a time, allowing the child to learn through direct experience. Through sight, touch, movement, and comparison, the child is able to discover these relationships for herself.

This work also provides an important foundation for later mathematical thinking as the child experiences sequence, comparison, gradual changes in size, and dimensional relationships in a concrete and meaningful way.

What may look like a beautiful tower represents something much deeper: a young child actively constructing her understanding of the world through purposeful movement, concentration, repetition, and discovery. 💛

✨ Concrete experience today. Deeper understanding tomorrow. ✨

It’s Wonder Wednesday at Casa Montessori. 📚✨

A quiet corner, a good book, and a child deeply engaged in the joy of learning.

A carefully prepared Montessori environment gives children the space to follow their interests, nurture their natural sense of WONDER, and become deeply engaged in what captures their attention.

These quiet moments of focus are an important part of the child’s growing independence. 💛

BACK TO SCHOOL, the Casa Montessori way🏠

At Casa, we know that a smooth transition back to school is supported by consistency, trust, and meaningful opportunities for independence.

At home, families can help prepare children for the rhythms of the Montessori environment by:

✨ Keeping morning and bedtime routines predictable
✨ Choosing clothing and belongings children can manage independently
✨ Making space for Practical Life at home
✨ Encouraging children to carry, prepare, organize, and care for their own things
✨ Protecting sleep, outdoor movement, and daily reading
✨ Asking thoughtful questions instead of immediately solving problems
✨ Trusting the child, the prepared environment, and the guide

From our Toddler Community through Upper Elementary, we work in partnership with families to nurture independence, concentration, confidence, and a lifelong love of learning.

We are so excited to welcome our Casa community back for another beautiful school year. 💙💚
