Dear Walton Family,

Today, we were made aware of a “fake” news text message that seems to be winding its way through our school.

The text message appears to be from a news organization (it is not), and it announces that our school is closed on November 13th due to a “bomb threat.” Neither the text, nor the threat are real. In an effort to take every precaution in keeping our students safe, we did conduct an intense investigation. Per the FBI's Joint Terrorism Task Force, the effort is a hoax that has been perpetrated across several different states in many different schools.

As there has been no threat, school will continue as scheduled. Our teachers will be teaching, our students will be learning, and our community will continue to be home to one of the nation’s best schools.

If our investigation uncovers any further information, we will be sure to share it with you as soon as possible.

Sincerely,

Dr. Catherine Mallanda

Lady Raider Volleyball Wins State Championship

The Walton Lady Raider volleyball team, ranked #1 in Georgia and #8 in the nation by MaxPreps, defeated the Milton Lady Eagles 3-0 (25-14, 25-15, & 25-14) in the state championship match on Saturday at the Marietta Garden. The state title was the Lady Raiders’ 4th consecutive, their 8th in 9 years, and their 13th overall. They were led on offense by Gabby Gonzales with 17 kills and Riley MacNeill with 14 while setter Caroline Cheney recorded 38 assists and three aces. Defensively, Molly Pember contributed 6 digs and MacNeill added 2 blocks.

The state championship win caps the historic high school careers of eight senior teammates: Lauren Burrows, Caroline Cheney, Meg Froemming, Gabby Gonzales, Reilly MacNeill, Molly Pember, Jordan Rush, and Riley Spurlin. During their four years, these seniors compiled an incredible list of accomplishments as a group, including: four state championships; one national championship season (while being ranked #1 in several polls at the end of that season); a 157-14 overall record; a 97-0 record against Georgia teams, including only losing 5 sets during those 97 matches, and three championships in national-level tournaments. In addition, these seniors have earned too many individual honors to list here, and all eight will continue their volleyball careers in college.

Congratulations on a fantastic season culminating in the state championship, Lady Raiders!
