Sawyer Road Elementary an IB PYP Academy

We are incredibly grateful to First Baptist Church Marietta and artist Marshall Ausburn for choosing Sawyer Road Elementary as one of the many mission projects this summer. As part of Mission Marietta, a week-long event where students give back to the community, four dedicated teenagers and volunteers spent six hours each day over the past week working on a beautiful mural for our school.

The finished artwork has truly transformed our walls, and we couldn’t be more thrilled to welcome students back in August to a brighter, more inspiring environment. Thank you, First Baptist Church Marietta and everyone involved, for your kindness, hard work, and lasting impact on our school community!

Please welcome Natalie Wilson to our Starfish family! We are excited to have her join our team for the 2026–2027 school year as a Literacy Coach 3-5!

Natalie Wilson graduated with an International Economics degree from the University of Alabama and a Master's in Middle Grades ELA Education from Mercer University. She has taught grades 4-8, has been an ESOL/EIP teacher, and served as a literacy and academic coach here in MCS.

Fun Fact: She grew up in Europe, and has a goal to visit all 50 states by age 50 (she will have been to 44 by the end of this year)!

Natalie Wilson se graduó en Economía Internacional por la Universidad de Alabama y obtuvo una Maestría en Educación del Lenguaje y la Literatura (ELA) para Grados Intermedios por la Universidad Mercer. Natalie ha impartido clases en los grados 4.º a 8.º, ha ejercido como maestra de ESOL/EIP y se ha desempeñado como asesora académica y de alfabetización aquí en MCS.

Dato curioso: Creció en Europa y tiene el objetivo de visitar los 50 estados antes de cumplir los 50 años (¡para finales de este año ya habrá visitado 44!).

Please welcome Gloria Lyon to our Starfish family! We are excited to have her join our team for the 2026–2027 school year as an ESOL Teacher!

Gloria has 23 years of experience in education, including work in adult education, K–8 classrooms, and ESOL programs at both the elementary and middle school levels. She is passionate about helping students reach their full potential, particularly through building strong literacy skills and fostering a love of learning. Her goal is to create a supportive classroom environment where every student feels encouraged, confident, and successful.

Fun Fact: She loves camping, hiking, and spending time outdoors, especially with family!

Gloria cuenta con 23 años de experiencia en el ámbito educativo, incluyendo trabajo en educación de adultos, aulas de K–8 y programas de ESOL tanto en el nivel de primaria como en el de secundaria. Le apasiona ayudar a los estudiantes a alcanzar su máximo potencial, particularmente mediante el desarrollo de sólidas habilidades de lectoescritura y el fomento del amor por el aprendizaje. Su objetivo es crear un entorno de aula de apoyo en el que cada estudiante se sienta motivado, seguro de sí mismo y exitoso.

Dato curioso: ¡Le encanta acampar, hacer senderismo y pasar tiempo al aire libre, especialmente en compañía de su familia!

Please welcome Anna Beaman to our Starfish family! We are excited to have her join our team for the 2026–2027 school year as a 5th-Grade Teacher!

Anna received her Bachelor's degree from the University of Georgia and a Master's degree from Kennesaw State University. She has been teaching GIFTED for the past couple of years and is excited to be back in a 5th-grade classroom.

Fun Fact: She loves to travel and has 3 more continents left to visit to reach her goal of visiting all 7 continents.

Anna obtuvo su licenciatura en la Universidad de Georgia y una maestría en la Universidad Estatal de Kennesaw. Durante los últimos años se ha dedicado a la enseñanza de alumnos con altas capacidades y le entusiasma regresar a un aula de 5.º grado.

Please welcome Caroline Conboy to our Starfish family! We are excited to have her join our team for the 2026–2027 school year as an Interrelated Teacher!

Caroline graduated from the University of North Georgia with degrees in Elementary Education and Special Education, along with a minor in Psychology. After gaining valuable experience in Hall and Lumpkin counties, she is grateful for the opportunity to share her talents with our Starfish.

Fun Fact: She has two cats, one named Tuna and the other named Meadow.

It is bittersweet to celebrate the retirement of some of Sawyer Road’s beloved staples. Nancy Seldon, Kim Janz, Tamie Clark, and Julie Smith will be missed dearly, but the impact you have made on our students and school will last forever. Thank you for helping our starfish reach for the stars and for the countless memories you leave behind.

Es un momento agridulce celebrar la jubilación de algunas de las personas más queridas de Sawyer Road. Nancy Seldon, Kim Janz, Tamie Clark y Julie Smith serán extrañadas profundamente, pero el impacto que dejaron en nuestros estudiantes y en nuestra escuela permanecerá para siempre. Please welcome Rylee Preston to our Starfish family! We are excited to have her join our team for the 2026–2027 school year as a 4th-Grade Teacher!

Rylee graduated from Southern Utah University with a degree in Elementary Education and a minor in Early Childhood Development. She is currently moving to Georgia from Utah, where she was teaching 3rd grade. Her goal is to create a positive classroom environment through strong relationships and a desire to learn.

Rylee se graduó de la Southern Utah University con una licenciatura en Educación Primaria y una especialización secundaria en Desarrollo de la Primera Infancia. Actualmente se está mudando a Georgia desde Utah, donde impartía clases de 3.er grado. Su objetivo es crear un ambiente positivo en el aula mediante el establecimiento de relaciones sólidas y el fomento del deseo de aprender.

Just like this time on Friday, we hugged it out with our Starfish as they headed off for Summer Break. To our Starfish families, we will miss you and hope you have a restful and enjoyable summer. We can’t wait to welcome back our returning Starfish and meet our new ones during the 2026–2027 school year!

Please welcome Diana Eraydin to our Starfish family! We are excited to have her join our team for the 2026–2027 school year as a School Counselor!

Diana earned her Bachelor’s degree from Kennesaw State University and her Master’s degree from Liberty University. She has proudly served with Marietta City Schools for the past 13 years, including the last 4 years at Marietta High School. Diana is a Los Angeles native, Mexican-American with a passion for learning about different cultures. She is excited and honored to serve as a School Counselor at Sawyer Road Elementary and looks forward to supporting and serving the students and families of the Sawyer Road community!
