It was a privilege for Marietta College to support other commemorations and events at other schools today, too, for 9/11 Day. We were able to provide funding to the Washington County Career Center High School for their activities through grants from 9/11 Day, AmeriCorps, and Community Campus Coalition.

🇺🇸 Marietta College was honored to host a campus and community-wide commemoration today. With support and volunteers from the Rotary Club of Marietta District 6690, funding from 9/11 Day, AmeriCorps, and Community Campus Coalition we were able to:

♥️ Work with the Appalachian Ohio Manufacturers' Coalition to bring to life a display designed by student Kaira Gulett

🤍Write thank you notes to first responders, active-duty military service members, and veterans

💙 Pack care kits for homeless individuals, knowing that homelessness disproportionately affects our veterans

🎠 Today kicks off the 175th Annual Washington County Fair! As part of our region-wide 9/11 Day Initiative, Marietta College students, faculty, staff, and community supporters were able to hand out ☀️ positive message bracelets 👏🏽 to all the kids along the two-mile long parade route.

Special shout out to the 🥎 Marietta College Softball team for recruiting student volunteers and being a key part of the event!

🇺🇸 Our 9/11 Day activities and events are happening all month long thanks to a number of community partners and campus groups as we all come together to lift our communities up, support one another, and commemorate the 25th anniversary. Marietta College is honored to be part of 9/11 Day this month. Through funding from the organization, as well as AmeriCorps and Community Campus Coalition, we are able to support numerous opportunities to bring community together to create positive connections and commemorate 9/11 throughout September.

This evening, our Center for Appalachian Innovation intern with Marietta Main Street hosted a Positive Message Board at their September First Friday: Back to School event.

As our nation commemorates the 25th anniversary of 9/11 next week, Marietta College is bringing together veterans, students, faculty, staff, civic organizations, and community members for a day of remembrance and service centered on “Our Neighbors, Never Forgotten.”

Join us Friday, Sept. 11, from 3-6 p.m. outside on campus — all are welcome to attend.

Our community-wide commemoration with the Center for Appalachian Innovation on Friday, September 11, 2026 will feature memorial yard signs 🎗️ honoring regional individuals lost during or as a result of 9/11, along with 🇺🇸 American flags displayed across campus in remembrance.

Veterans, students, civic leaders, educators, and community members are invited to gather to reflection, show gratitude, and serve.

Let the Games begin! The Hunger Games just arrived at the McDonough Center and our first-year students are diving in. They will use the books to explore the 5 Components Model of Leadership - created right here at McDonough by Robert McManus and Gama Perucci.

History and leadership walked the same ground this weekend at Gettysburg National Military Park!

Marietta College LEAD and History students and faculty spent two days on the battlefield, tracing decisions from the 1863 Civil War battle and talking through what they mean for leaders today.

Huge thanks to the generous donors who funded the trip because they believe history still teaches us how to lead. Grateful to travel and learn with Professors Brandon Downing and Jason Nulton and a great crew of students.

Congrats to McDonough Leadership poster competition winner Kaira Gulett!!

Students were asked to design a poster creatively expressing what leadership means to the McDonough community. One poster was chosen from the categories of

1) The Five Components Model
2) Leadership
3) Followership

Winners are displayed prominently in our front offices for at least one year. Congrats!!
