🌿Students in our Landscape Construction & Turf Management program have been busy putting their skills to work! From operating commercial mowing equipment and maintaining our grounds to cleaning equipment and working with plants in the greenhouse, students are gaining valuable hands-on experience with the tools, equipment, and techniques used in the landscaping and turf industry. 🚜

There’s no substitute for getting outside, getting your hands dirty, and learning the job by doing the job! 🌱💪

The Washington County Career Center continues policy for providing meals to children served under the National School Lunch Program and School Breakfast Program for the 2026-2027 school year. The Career Center qualifies to operate the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) allowing breakfast and lunch to be provided to all children at no charge and eliminates the collection of meal applications for free, reduced-price, and paid student meals. This approach reduces burdens for families and helps ensure that students receive nutritious meals.

🔥Our junior and senior students had the opportunity to hear from Rob Perez with Hobart Institute of Welding Technology this week.

Rob shared information about training opportunities at Hobart, careers in the welding industry, and the many paths available to students interested in turning their welding skills into a career.

🚗 A Reminder About Safe Driving - The safety of our students and our community is always a priority at the Washington County Career Center.

We have recently received concerns from community members regarding student driving to and from school, including reports of excessive speed, distracted driving and cell phone use, loud music, and other unsafe driving behaviors.

On Wednesday, Director Mike Elliott and School Resource Officer Deputy Derkin met with all student drivers at the end of the school day to reinforce the importance of being responsible and attentive behind the wheel.

• Students were reminded to:
• Obey posted speed limits and traffic laws
• Put phones away while driving
• Stay focused and aware of other vehicles and pedestrians
• Keep music at a reasonable level
• Represent themselves and the Career Center in a responsible and professional way when driving to or from campus

Students were also reminded that driving to school is a privilege, and the Career Center may revoke a student’s driving privileges when careless or reckless driving creates a safety concern.

We appreciate our parents and guardians reinforcing these expectations at home. Working together, we can help make sure our students — and everyone sharing the road with them — get to school and home safely each day. ❤️

💜 Recovery Walk — September 26
September is also National Recovery Month, a time to celebrate recovery, recognize the strength of those on the journey, and remind our community that recovery is possible. 💜

Join the Washington County Behavioral Health Board for the 7th Annual Recovery Walk on Saturday, September 26 at East Muskingum Park in Marietta. The event will include community resources, a DJ, a mini farmers market, and free Recovery Is Beautiful T-shirts while supplies last!
