5th graders had a BLAST with our Exploding Bag Science Experiment!
Students mixed baking soda and vinegar to create a chemical reaction that produced carbon dioxide gas. We couldn’t see the gas itself, but the fizzing, bubbles, and expanding bags gave us plenty of evidence that it was there! Nothing beats learning through hands-on science—especially when it ends with a POP! 💥🧪

Shout out to our 5th grade Football Players and cheerleaders! They are so fun to watch and will be for many years to come! They are all talented athletes and smarty pants in the classroom as well! If you aren’t watching PeeWee Football on Saturday mornings, you are missing out! Way to go on the win 5th Grade Colts!

Now 5th graders know what composite figures are! They used snap cubes to build rectangular prisms with their partners, then put them together to make composite figures and finally they found their total volume!

Now fifth graders know a new math word…VOLUME. They also know how to count cubes to find the volume of objects.

This week our 5th grade scientists in Mrs. Pike’s class kicked off the year with the classic Coke & Mentos experiment! While the giant eruption was exciting, the real lesson was learning how scientists work. Students practiced following procedures, working as a team, using assigned lab roles, making predictions, recording observations, and staying safe during an investigation.
Science is off to an explosive start at Rivercrest Elementary! 🚀🔬
