🔺The ladies of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, Marianna Alumnae Chapter, were honored to participate in the Jackson County Training School (JCTS) Class Reunion Parade.

Jackson County Training School holds a significant place in our community's history as a school where Black students received a quality education from dedicated Black educators during a time of segregation. We proudly celebrated the school's enduring legacy, the achievements of its alumni, and the lasting impact it has had on generations of families.💛

It was a privilege to stand alongside alumni, community members, and supporters in honoring the rich heritage, resilience, and excellence of Jackson County Training School.

Today we honor the legacy of the last enslaved African Americans in Texas who were finally informed of their freedom, some two and a half years after President Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation. It was those people, and the generations of Texans who came after them, who made the bold declaration to celebrate this day, marking a reality we know far too well in this country: freedom may be delayed, but it will never be denied.

Though our fight for freedom sadly continues, today we pause to celebrate and embrace the joy of our ancestors who believed in the possibilities of a more promising tomorrow. And in that joy, we remain anchored, steadfast in our pursuit of true freedom and justice for all.
