Marceline High School’s Black Knight Robotics team competed March 20-22 at the Heartland Regional FIRST Robotics Competition. While we finished 21st out of 36 in the qualifying matches, rankings don’t always tell the full story.

The team pushed through obstacles that challenged us and showed incredible resilience along the way. Our robot was fully operational in every match, with only one instance where technical issues kept us from performing at our best.

This success was the result of eleven weeks of hard work, late nights, and weekends.

A huge thank you to Moore Fans Company for making this season possible through their generous sponsorship. Special appreciation goes to Ryan Lodder and Kameron Kelly for their engineering support during and after work hours.

Additionally, Michael Krumpelman deserves recognition for his dedication as an assistant coach, spending countless hours helping students design and build this incredible machine. A shout out to Mike Sportsman as well for all of his assistance during the build season.

We are also grateful to the parents who supported the team with meals and patience through the long hours of preparation.

After three exciting days consisting of 12 qualifying matches at the Heartland Regional Competition, Black Knight Robotics was privileged to be selected by Park Hill South Robotics Team 5126 and BV CAPS Metal Mustang Robotics to go into the finals as part of their 5th seed alliance. Although we suffered a loss in our first match against the 4th seed, our alliance returned to win the second round of the competition but unfortunately were eliminated in game three of the semifinals. It was a great experience for our team and we are honored to have worked with both teams. The team worked hard to learn the game and to overcome adversity both on and off the field ( ). Overall, it was a great competition for Black Knight Robotics-Team 4809, and we are already looking forward to the 2024 season!

As we conclude the 2023 season, we wish to express our thanks and gratitude to Moore Fans for their sponsorship and to their talented employees who helped us fabricate parts. A special thanks to Mike Krumpelman for all of his hard work and mechanical expertise in helping the team design and build the robot.
