Last week we visited some of our old neighborhoods… While John was working one day, I took a little tour of the Rancho Cucamonga preservation of the original grape growers and the historic viticulture of the area. It really means so much and John and I are going back together to take more of it in :):) A special thanks to Gino Filippi for sharing his passion and stories with me!

We did the San Antonio premier Hair show this weekend… It was completely filled with some of the most talented hairdressers around. I love soaking up that inspiration and I was so proud to be representing Jack Winn Pro. Brilliant lightener really is simply brilliant and I am so grateful I got to use it and share it this weekend 🤍🤍🤍

College Clarion I am so grateful to the teachers that helped lay the foundation of a career that has spanned three decades… And I'm not stopping anytime soon. Mr. Bettencourt taught me to love the science of hair, Mrs. Merkle taught me to see in color, Albert Graziano, Chuck Fisher, and Mr. Alba taught us to cut hair fearlessly. We all left school knowing how to do a good haircut. deberard we were so so blessed! And I have loved standing by your side for the last 36 years 🖤🤍 .college

Hair color is completely fascinating. Grey hair is so much of what we do behind the chair o, understanding it and learning everything é can about it helos us make good choices HERE: for our clients. Here I just wanted to clarify
Add 1st
that even though visible melanin isn't in gray hair, there can be pieces of melanin or small amounts of melanin still affecting the chemical and environmental interactions with the Hair:):)

"Don't chase trends so hard that you forget your hands have a voice."

In an industry that moves faster than ever, it's easy to feel like you have to keep up with every trend, every technique, every algorithm.

But your greatest value has never been your ability to copy what's popular.

It's your perspective.
Your experience.
Your touch.
Your eye.
Your hands.

Learn the trends. Study the techniques. Stay curious. But never lose the artist that only you can be. That voice is what your clients come back for.

Thank you for capturing this, 🫶🏽

Grey hair has become a huge phenomenon
So many people are letting their natural beauty shine...
But one of the little things that happens is that it can turn yellow...
Sometimes really yellow...

One big reason this happens is oxidation.
Yes, that incredibly useful thing that we use to lighten natural melanin and develop dye precursors...

It can also be damaging and incredibly unpredictable at times.

In grey hair it is definitely unpredictable...
Or predictably chaotic

☀️ UV light is made of tiny particles of energy called photons. When those photons hit the hair, they excite melanin fragments, amino acids, lipids, and trace minerals left behind from hard water and

They aren't matter, but they interact physically with matter. Transferring energy that sets chemical reactions in motion🤯

That excited energy helps convert ordinary oxygen into reactive oxygen species (ROS)...highly reactive forms of oxygen that interact with chemical components in the hair to create brand new yellow chromophores.

These yellow compounds aren’t melanin. They’re oxidation byproducts…
A little the compounds that cause the pages of an old book to yellow over time.

That’s why UV exposure is, in my opinion, the biggest reason gray hair turns yellow.
and it is one we don't address enough.

Chelate for sure!!
But, UV protection and antioxidant leave ins are a must!!!

Water may be the most overlooked ingredient in permanent hair color.

We spend years learning about ammonia, hydrogen peroxide, and dye molecules…
But water?!
What does it do?
Almost everything.
🤣

We kind of write it off
We act like it's just a filler ingredient
We talk about how it's more important to have less of it
But do we ever consider how important it is to have the right amount of it...???

Water doesn’t lighten hair.
It doesn’t significantly raise the pH.
It doesn’t create the permanent dye molecules.

It activates the chemistry.
It preps the hair.
It transports the ingredients.
It provides the environment where reactions occur.

Without water, oxidative hair color is simply a collection of static ingredients.

With water, four separate functional components become one complete oxidative coloring system.

Like that iOS system running quietly in the background of our iPhone…
We aren't really thinking about it
( unless it updates in the middle of the night and Fs up our phone 🤣)
But we can't snap, text, or tik the tok without it:):)

So we need to give water the love that it is due💧💧🤍🤍💧💧🤍🤍
