Another pre piano class complete! 🎹✏️🧠🎶
This was the 2nd class of the summer & these kids did an amazing job learning about piano! (2 friends were missing from the final class).

This class was SO brave. They tried everything on their own from day 1, had unbelievable listening skills, and I think they had a lot of fun too 🙂

Everyone was so excited to share their music for the recital and it was overall such a great class of kiddos!

Proud of them all!!!
Looking forward to what comes next on their piano journey 🎶

Another student who finished TWO books! 👏

Mckenzi is such a hard worker and I have been so impressed with how quickly she finished the purple book.

In addition to finishing these two books she learned the piece “Blue Christmas” for the winter recital and a duet with a friend from school for their talent show! Duets are very challenging and I was so proud of them both for how well they did!!

She had a few weeks off for summer but jumped back in to lessons at the end of July. I gave her my usual pep talk about how tricky the Orange book was and the first few songs are an adjustment, but she passed BOTH hard songs on the same day 🤯

She trusted the process passing RH, then LH, then snails, turtles, and finally stars.

Thank for all your hard work!!
I am looking forward to everything you will learn and accomplish this year and in level 3!! Keep it up 👏

Gianna finished TWO books!! ✅✅

I realized yesterday when I was planning my next post that I had never gotten a photo of Gianna holding her purple book so we did that today 😉📸

& you see that song in the background?? It’s Coffee Bean Blues—and she PASSED it today! We started learning it last week and she told me she practiced it a bunch and home and today she passed it on all 3 speeds. WOW! 🤩

Finishing Coffee puts you just under halfway through the third book. Gianna has cruised this summer!!

In addition to finishing these books and starting Orange she also learned Rewrite the Stars from the Greatest Showman. She has had it mastered for a few weeks now and I really enjoy hearing her play it at the end of class.

Norah finished Orange!

Finishing orange is such a milestone and I am always extra excited for students to hit this place in their journey. The challenges and things learned in this book as a result of those challenges are amazing!

Norah did a lot of great at home practice to prepare for the harder songs in this book and others she just cruised through! She started to use new techniques like RH/LH alone to master harder songs.

Since finishing orange she has gotten a great start on blue! I think she notices the songs getting harder but she is now even MORE proud when she finishes them 🥹

Norah is also working on “Under the Sea” for the summer concert! It’s sounding great and I am very excited for her to finish it!!! 👏

Keep up the great work, Norah! I am very proud of you and I am looking forward to helping you finish the blue book! ✨

Mckinley Nelson, Class of 2026

Mckinley began piano lessons in June of 2022 alongside her two sisters. What started as a casual hobby has turned into such a meaningful four-year piano journey! Through it all, she has been a steady, dedicated student who kept showing up and making progress—even while balancing a very busy high school schedule and so many other activities.

Over the years, Mckinley completed nearly five Piano Express books, worked through a TON of songs on Piano Maestro, and learned popular and Christmas favorites along the way. I have loved watching her build her skills, confidence, and independence at the piano.

Even after graduating, Mckinley has been popping into the studio this summer for a few makeup lessons from the school year, and it has been so fun to keep seeing her! She has been especially focused on learning Canon in D—such a beautiful, timeless classic—and it has been exciting to watch her continue working toward new goals.

Mckinley saved nearly all of her studio points for her entire time in lessons. Yesterday, she cashed them in for $50—almost $60! That patience and determination feels so fitting for her piano journey, too.

I also had the privilege of taking Mckinley’s senior photos last summer. She was absolutely stunning, and we had such a fun session together!

This fall, Mckinley will attend NTC to study Animal Science. I am so proud of all she has accomplished and especially proud of her commitment to continuing piano during such a full and busy season of life.

Mckinley, thank you for the years we shared in the studio—I am so thankful for our time together and can’t wait to see what is ahead for you!

Wyatt finished GOLD ✅

Somehow I didn’t get this photo taken back in September so playing catchup now!! This gives me the opportunity to brag about all that he has done since finishing this book in addition to talking about how awesome he is for finishing it

He is the youngest person to finish this book so far & the 3rd person studio wide! The music is much more challenging and starts to require real technique and practice time outside of the studio. After finishing Silver Wyatt became more determined than ever to fly through Gold—and he did!

I see something change in students after they finish the Silver level. They start to really understand how to learn harder music and that gives them a lot more confidence in this next book!

Wyatt also competed in WMTA last March, made it to regional, and then received an honorable mention at the regional competition! This is such an achievement and I am so proud!!

He is learning “Don’t Stop Believing” for the summer recital and it sounds so awesome—he recently finished it!

He also wasted no time on the next piano express book. After gold comes an even more challenging repertoire book (there are 2 total, A & B ) and he has just 9 songs left!! 🤯

Oh and I can’t stop there—Wyatt has also been my pre-piano wingman for the last few classes and he is such a big help in that class! It has been fun to watch him take on a teaching role as well! —this is where his own journey began—in pre-piano! He was a part of my second ever pre piano class June 2022 & started lessons officially in August 2022. His 4 year anniversary is soon ♥️

He is always working on his WMTA music for 2027, chipping away at the final few songs in the rep A book and playing the piano as much as possible. He truly loves it.

He is the first student to finish the vision I have for a complete path for students in the studio:

Piano express (1-6)

I am so excited for the years to come and to watch you take your skills to the next level!

Emmy finished her first book! 👏

Emmy has been SUCH a hard worker from day 1!
She also must have played all the songs in this book 50x

Each class she would get right to work and play every song from page 1. Towards the end it would take almost 20 min to do this but she got in so many wonderful reps on the songs in this first book—her strong foundation!

I think a super underrated way to practice is simply playing songs AGAIN that you already know! The more you play the better you will get! You just need to play!✨

Emmy recently learned the Sleeping Beauty Waltz for a talent show and she is working on Colors of the Wind for the summer recital! 🍂

She also wasted no time getting started on level 2 (purple) & is already on page 41!

Keep up the great work, Emmy!! I am so proud of you and looking forward to helping you finish your summer song and this purple book!!

Maddie finished two books!! ✅✅

Last summer at this time she was in the middle of pre piano class. Fast forward a year & she is now on page 16 of her T H I R D book!!

Maddie has worked so hard this past year and has accomplished so much!!

As I said she wasted no time getting started on book 3 and like many students this third book can be quite challenging!! The first main song uses both hands and 3 note chords for the first time!

Maddie is crushing it!!!!

She has been doing RH alone LH alone and then snails turtles and stars to work through these harder songs. Not only does this help her learn the songs faster but she is getting 50 points instead of 10 😉

She is also working on Golden for her summer song—that is sounding amazing as well!

Keep up the great work!!! I am looking forward to all you will learn in year 2 of lessons! 🎹🩷

The first Pre-Piano class of the summer wrapped up today! ☀️🎹

I was SO proud of this group. They were such a young class, and they truly impressed me with how much they learned over the past six weeks.

The main goal of Pre-Piano is simple: to introduce piano in a FUN way while building a strong foundation for future lessons.

Throughout the session, we worked on:
🎹 Learning the difference between right and left hand
🎹 Identifying all of the keyboard note names
🎹 Beginning note reading through short songs
🎹 Keeping a steady beat

Our final class is always one of my favorites! Families get to walk through different review stations where students show everything they’ve learned, and we finish with a mini recital where each child performs a short piece.

Watching their confidence grow from the first class to today is one of the most rewarding parts of teaching. 🥹❤️ I’m so proud of every one of them!

The July pre-piano class is currently FULL

However there is some availability for the August pre-piano class! Pre-piano is not offered year round so if you were thinking about giving it a try now is the time!!

Aenon finished Orange! 👏

I am so proud of how hard he worked to finish this book! The songs at the end are so tricky! However I think most kids agree they are F U N to play after you get the hang of them 😉

He didn’t stop there—he jumped right into the next book, and already has nearly 20 songs done in the blue level!!

He has improved so much on his note reading and simply figuring out new music on his own. To me, reading music and being able to figure out a song on your own is the key to a lifetime of joy in music and playing the piano!

Keep up the great work, Aenon! I really enjoy teaching you and I am looking forward to everything you will learn in the blue book!!
