Help Spread the message to reduce Single use plastics.

Did you know, up to 11 million tons of plastic enter marine waters each year? Much of it starts out on land from overflowing landfills or as litter on our beaches, streets, and sidewalks that is swept into storm drains, creeks, streams, and rivers—all leading to the ocean. A chunk of this trash is found on July 5th—the dirtiest beach day of the year. Join us and help prevent plastic pollution from making its way into our waterways.

If you’re in the neighborhood, your help can make a difference! Help keep our natural areas clean.

You can make a difference!--Join the Trash Cleanup at Long Beach area of Key Deer Refuge on Big Pine Key, Sun, Oct. 17 9-11 am. The beach is a complete mess. Prevailing winds dump lots of trash on the shoreline, and this trash can ensnare wildlife, or even be ingested. Every piece we can pull off will help. We'll be setting up at 8:30, trash bags and pickers provided. Bring drinking water, shoes that can get wet, and sun protection. If you are looking for a way to help wildlife, we'd certainly welcome your help.

Directions: On Big Pine Key, Go south on Long Beach Road off US 1. (Turn at the Fishing Lodge), travel approx. 1/2 mile south, the road will bend west and we'll be parking along the road edges at the refuge gate.
