Equipping singer-artists to build, refine, and master their vocal technique, musicianship, and performance artistry to powerfully engage the hearts of their audience. The mission of Vocal Edge School of Music voice studio is to help students to develop their musical gifts to their fullest potential in order that they may enjoy using and sharing their gifts to inspire themselves and others through
music’s beauty and power. Students will grow in utilizing their whole being in the music as we focus on the use of heart, mind, soul, and body. Students will become more keenly aware of the elements of music and performance through high quality vocal technique instruction, music literacy, music theory, sight-singing, and audition preparation. In addition, emphasis will be placed on song interpretation and how to communicate the emotions and meaning of the text. Students will have the option of learning different styles of singing and genres of music with a solid foundation of healthful singing. Some of these styles include classical and opera in various languages, musical theater, jazz, contemporary, etc. Some students will pursue a career in music and be involved in music professionally as a full-time or part-time vocation. Some students will “sing on the side,” involved in music semi-professionally. Still some students will sing or play instruments in college or community choirs, musicals, operas, a ca****la and jazz groups, bands, orchestras, and chamber ensembles. All students should be involved in music in some way, whether it be through their church, ministries, missions, weddings, garage bands, community theaters and choirs, community bands and orchestras and small ensembles, or any other organization. In addition to weekly lessons, I will be teaching optional Master Classes once a month. These will provide great opportunities for students to sing in front of their peers while receiving coaching and instruction from me. Students will learn from watching me work with other students, gaining a deeper understanding of vocal techniques and approaches and of song interpretation. These Master Classes will help to promote community within the studio and will also be a great opportunity for students to sing with an accompanist! Since music is a performing art form, students will participate in two recitals during the year, one in November and one in June, to gain performing experience and to share their gifts and progress with their family and friends.
