Hilary Life Coaching

Hilary Life Coaching I coach adults with ADHD—especially late-diagnosed folks—because I know firsthand how transformative real support and understanding can be.

I am grateful that more girls are getting diagnosed earlier than I did, but we are still not capturing enough of them. FINDtheADHDgirls (FTAG) is a non-profit with a mission to get all girls with ADHD diagnosed before age 8. They are attempting to solve that problem by educating about ADHD.

For ADHD Awareness Month, they are providing free booklets about ADHD in young girls. People can register to receive the free weekly codes at https://findtheadhdgirls.org/weekly-code/

Laundry is my go-to example for "why is this so hard?" with ADHD brains.

Because it is not one task. It is a whole stack of steps, decisions, and time-based swaps.

If you are avoiding it, it is not laziness.

It is data. You can work with data.

I wrote a short post with a few "data questions" and simple accommodations that actually help.

ADHD can make meal planning seem impossible, especially when you're already hungry. That is the worst time to figure out what to eat. Your executive functions are taxed, your patience is gone, and choosing a meal can feel weirdly overwhelming. Having a visible "Default Meals" list (think pantry door, fridge, or inside a cabinet) can reduce decision fatigue by lowering your cognitive load so you can actually eat!

The key is to keep the list simple and built around staples you usually have on hand.

I learned this framework from Amy Jones, a fellow ADHD coach and nutritionist who specializes in helping ADHDers create meals and meal plans in a truly ADHD-friendly way. Her approach of sorting meals by energy level (not by what you "should" cook) is a potential game-changer. If you want to dive deeper into building a food system that works with your brain, check out her WTF's For Dinner course: https://www.amyjonesnutrition.com/wtfsfordinner

Here is a sample list of ideas to get you started. These are just examples. Your list should consist of what you actually like and what your family will eat.

Low-effort meals (no cooking, minimal assembly)
• Greek yogurt + berries + chia or nuts
• Cottage cheese + cherry tomatoes + cucumbers
• "Snack plate" dinner: hummus + veggies + olives + hard-boiled eggs

Moderate-effort meals (simple cooking, minimal assembly)
• Rotisserie chicken + frozen veggies
• Frozen turkey or chicken meatballs + marinara + bagged salad
• Leftovers + salad kit

Higher-effort meals (multiple steps, more prep and cleanup)
• Tacos (beans or meat + bagged slaw + avocado)
• Sheet pan dinner (protein + vegetables)
• Favorite soup

What's your go-to low-effort meal when executive functions are taxed?

Huge thanks to Amy Jones for sharing this framework!

You miss a deadline. Forget an important meeting. Lose your keys for the third time this week.

And that voice starts: "I'm such a failure. What's wrong with me?"

But what if I told you, you didn't fail. It FLOPped.

A FLOP is a Forced Learning Opportunity. It's what happens when you stop seeing perceived failures as proof something's wrong with you, and start seeing them as chances to learn about yourself, your brain, or your systems.

Here's the shift: "I failed" keeps you stuck and ashamed. "It FLOPped" moves you forward with curiosity.

If you have ADHD, you're going to experience more FLOPs than your neurotypical peers. Not because you're broken, but because your brain works differently and needs different systems.

Every FLOP is data. Every FLOP teaches you something about what your brain actually needs.

What's a recent moment that felt like a failure? What if you reframed it as a FLOP? What could you learn from it?

This week, catch yourself before the shame spiral: "I didn't fail. It FLOPped. This is just data, not a disaster."

See what shifts when you give yourself permission to learn instead of judge. 💙
