Wild Wednesdays: Red Milkweed Beetle (Tetraopes tetrophthalmus)🪲

The Red Milkweed Beetle is a striking insect known for its bright red-orange body with bold black spots and long antennae. As its name suggests, this beetle spends most of its life on milkweed plants, where it feeds, reproduces, and completes its life cycle.

Red Milkweed Beetles play an important role in healthy ecosystems by interacting closely with native milkweed, a plant that also supports monarch butterflies and many other pollinators. While they feed on milkweed, they are a natural part of the ecosystem and contribute to the rich biodiversity found in grasslands and river corridors.

👀Where to spot them: Look for Red Milkweed Beetles on milkweed plants during the summer months. If you find patches of milkweed growing in sunny meadows or along the Jordan River corridor, you may spot these colorful beetles resting on the stems, leaves, or flowers.
