Academics matter. And so does learning how to navigate everyday life.

This week, our students practiced both—from academic learning to classroom responsibilities, caring for their environment, participating with peers, and having some fun in PE along the way.

At WSS, opportunities to build independence are woven throughout the school day. Each new responsibility, new experience, and new skill is another chance for students to discover:
“I can do this.”

And sometimes, those four words represent some of the most meaningful progress of all. 💙

From the moment a student walks into the classroom, we’re tracking progress toward academic, behavioral, and social emotional goals in real time. Our team uses these data to tailor instruction, adjust supports, and ensure every learning moment is meaningful and efficient.

But the real magic happens when our students become part of the process. Through age-appropriate tools and routines, students track their own progress throughout the day—whether it’s checking off completed goals, monitoring their own learning fluency, or reflecting on behavior and engagement. This builds confidence, promotes independence, and helps students connect their effort to their success.

Beyond Inclusion: Building Disability Leadership and Dismantling Systemic Ableism

October 22, 2026; 1:00–1:45 p.m. Eastern

This free webinar, hosted by Project Beyond Diagnosis, will feature Theo W. Braddy, the Executive Director of the National Council of Independent Living. Participants will learn how to recognize systemic ableism and about the importance of having people with disabilities as leaders and decision-makers in designing the policies that enable all of us to live and thrive in our communities.

ASL interpretation will be provided by a Certified Deaf Interpreter (CDI) and a certified interpreter. CART will also be provided.
