Construction site management directly affects the environment. Effectively managing erosion and sediment control on your jobsite and in your jurisdiction is one of the most important things you can do to protect our waterways and fish habitat. Water runs downhill. Some water discharge goes straight into ditches which lead to creeks and streams, ultimately to rivers and the ocean. Sometimes water discharge goes straight to storm drains. Not all storm drains go to sanitary sewer for treatment--many storm drains go straight to waterways. Can you identify which drains go to treatment? (Take that site map for a walk...) Protect the waterways where fish live, where your children swim and where wildlife nourishes.
Take it seriously.
Know your site.
Know where your water discharges.
Know and Use the proper BMPs to keep erosion and sediment from entering your local waterways.
The work you do IS important, and when done effectively, your work protects the water, the salmon, and us.
Help us all keep clean water clean.
Celebrate National Salmon Day!
