Special Education Instructional Assistant
Maple Lake Schools – Elementary School
Schedule: 7 hours per day
Compensation: Negotiable based on experience
Status: Non-Exempt
Position Summary
Maple Lake Schools is seeking a caring, dependable, and student-focused Special Education Instructional Assistant to support elementary students receiving special education services.
The Instructional Assistant works under the direction of licensed special education staff and building administration to provide academic, behavioral, social-emotional, and personal support to students. This position works collaboratively with teachers and other staff to help students succeed in a safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environment.
Essential Responsibilities
-Provide individual and small-group instructional support as directed by licensed staff.
-Assist students with academic, behavioral, social-emotional, and communication needs.
-Support implementation of student IEPs, accommodations, modifications, and behavior plans.
-Assist students with transitions, classroom activities, lunch, recess, and other school activities.
-Provide personal care or physical assistance when required.
-Collect and document student information and data as directed.
-Maintain student confidentiality and professional relationships.
-Work collaboratively with teachers, staff, students, and families.
-Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent.
Meet Minnesota requirements for a qualified paraprofessional, including successful completion of the Minnesota Paraeducator Competency Assessment (ParaPro Assessment) or another qualifying pathway.
Experience working with children or students with disabilities is preferred.
Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
Strong communication, patience, flexibility, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to meet the physical and emotional demands of working with elementary students.
