Washington D.C. - Day 4 and Goodbye

What a way to end a great trip! This morning, the students were able to visit the outside (and sneak a peek) of Ford's Theatre and the Peterson House where President Lincoln was shot and died. We then made our way to visit the Smithsonian Museums of American and Natural History. After lunch, we made a quick stop at the National Archives to see the Constitution, Declaration of Independence, and and Bill of Rights before making our way to the airport to go home and say goodbye.

Washington D.C - Day 3

Today was another busy day! We started early this morning with a tour of George Washington's home at Mount Vernon and toured the grounds. We then made our way to Arlington National Cemetery to honor those who have fought for our country's freedom. While there, we saw the changing of the guards at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, two students had the privilege of laying a wreath at the Tomb. We also enjoyed a tour of the Tomb Sentinel barracks courtesy of our very own Ave Maria Parent, Mr. Doboszenski. We are grateful for his service to our country! The group also visited the Iwo Jima memorial before dinner. After dinner, we visited the Pentagon memorial where we were also able to hear about the 9/11 attack at the Pentagon through the experience of Mr. Doboszenski. It was a moving experience; one that I hope is not soon forgotten by our students.

Washington D.C. - Day 2

It was a full day today! The students started early this morning with a tour of the Capitol Building followed by a White House tour. We are grateful for our local and national leaders and continue to pray for them. We were able to visit the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception where we celebrated the Mass of the Feast of Corpus Christi. After dinner, we rounded out our day by visiting the Signers’ Island, Washington Monument, and World War II memorial. Lots of steps taken and memories made today! Tomorrow we have another busy day, but I am sure the kids are tired and will sleep well tonight!
