Discover Community Education classes this fall! You'll find classes that start in September from early childhood to youth to adult. For registration go to osseoschools.arux.app

A few highlights:

Early Childhood Family Education is offering classes for parents/caregivers and children, birth to age 5. Classes for families include age-specific classes for infants, ones, twos, birth to age five and specialty classes for Spanish speaking, Hmong speaking, LGBTQIA+ and BIPOC and parenting children with special needs.

Youth Enrichment after-school classes. Choose from arts, chess, sports, musicals, STEM and more for your student.

Teen Driver's Education. In-person, online or self-paced learning options.

Adult Enrichment classes are for adults, and offered either in-person or online. New classes this year include: Total Relaxation: Restorative Yoga & Energy Healing and Build Your Own Terrarium and online Moroccan Pastilla: Morocco's Famous Chicken Pie and Rejuvenate Your Brain - Improve Cognitive Function at Any Age.

As previously announced, the District 279 Foundation is focusing its efforts in a new direction this year: the Strong Start Initiative.

Strong Start supports the newest educators in Osseo Area Schools by helping cover the cost of setting up their first classrooms. The initiative helps create welcoming, well-equipped learning environments that inspire and prepare scholars for the school year.

To kick off the initiative, District 279 Foundation trustees presented each new educator with $250 on Aug. 24 during Osseo Area Schools’ New Teacher Workshop. The funds will help educators purchase supplies and materials to set up their first classrooms.

Do you have a new baby at home or know someone who does? Tell a new parent or caregiver about Early Childhood Family Education (ECFE).

ECFE starts the week of September 14 and offers programs for families with infants and children up to age 5.

• Take an infant class. Meet early childhood teachers, parent educators, staff and other parents/caregivers with infants to connect, learn and navigate parenthood.

• Schedule a FREE New Baby Welcome Visit. Get personalized parenting support, answers to parenting questions and receive community resources from a licensed parent educator—in your home or out in the community.

• Join ECFE Drop-In Baby Playtime for babies from birth to 24 months.

Elementary, middle & high school students can join after school or evening chess classes this fall through Community Education Youth Enrichment. Whether your student is a beginner or already knows their way around the board, after school or evening Chess Clubs gives students the opportunity to sharpen skills, make new friends, learn and build confidence! All skill levels are welcome.

Students will:
- Learn the rules, tactics and strategies of chess
- Practice through fun games and mini-tournaments
- Build confidence, patience and critical thinking

Free events for students in kindergarten through sixth grade:

In partnership with Community Education Youth Enrichment, Osseo Area Schools high school cross country programs will be sponsoring a racing series in September. Events are one mile long races (may be shorter for some runners) for children in kindergarten through sixth grade. These events are great opportunity for students of all skill levels. Complete registration at osseoschools.arux.app.

• Free pre-registration is required. Limited walk-up registration will start 30 minutes before each
race. You may participate in any/all of the races.

• Parent and child time: You and your child play and learn together through fun activities

• Children’s play time: Your child plays with other children while you meet with other parents
