Belief Statements

We believe that parents are the first and primary educators of their children. Faculty, staff, and administration partner with parents to provide an authentic Catholic environment where each student is given the opportunity to reach his or her full potential by discovering and developing their God-given gifts. Our Lady of Mercy seeks to form the whole child, providing strong f

oundations of prayer, knowledge, and service to equip each child for Christian life in the 21st century. We believe that the ultimate goal of a Catholic school is to help each of its students get to Heaven. In a nurturing community of faith, students at Our Lady of Mercy cultivate Christian virtues and are inspired to become the men and women God calls them to be. The Catholic faith is the fabric of our school and is integrated into all aspects of student life. Through prayer, liturgy, the Sacraments, and Church teachings, students encounter Christ and develop a personal relationship with Him. We believe that a solid intellectual foundation enables children to reach their potential and prepare for a lifetime of learning. Our Lady of Mercy challenges each child to strive for academic excellence beyond basic skills. Using differentiated instruction and educational technology, teachers engage each unique learner in the acquisition of knowledge and the cultivation of natural curiosity. As students become active participants in their learning, they develop skills of research and discovery and are equipped to successfully meet the challenges of further education. We believe that faith is manifested in a life of service. At Our Lady of Mercy, students become aware of their place as citizens of the world, learning that their unique gifts are meant to be shared to build the Kingdom of God. Through service projects, extracurricular activities, athletics, and leadership opportunities, students learn to imitate Christ by serving others and contributing to the good of the community.

ATTENTION: The recent passage of House Bill 2632 by the Pennsylvania House of Representatives poses a serious threat to the OLM community. This legislation seeks to eliminate the Educational Improvement Tax Credit (EITC) and the Opportunity Scholarship Tax Credit (OSTC) Programs. This bill would result in approximately 20% of our students at OLM losing tax-credit scholarships that support their tuition.

Please see the attached statement from Archbishop Nelson PΓ©rez, and consider contacting your local elected officials regarding this matter by utilizing the Voter Voice tool of the Pennsylvania Catholic Conference.

Today, at our closing mass, the Nancy Reilly Award was presented to Bobby W. This special award honors a rising 8th-grade student who exemplifies the values and qualities of Mrs. Nancy Reillyβ€”a compassionate woman who dedicated her life to caring for others as a nurse and as a mother of six children.
Please join the OLM community in congratulating Bobby on this well-deserved honor and wishing him continued success as he enters his 8th-grade year! πŸŽ‰πŸ‘

Celebrating the Retirement of Mrs. Rita DiCarne!
After 40 years of faithful service as a dedicated Catholic school educator, Mrs. Rita DiCarne is retiring, leaving behind a legacy that will forever be woven into the fabric of Our Lady of Mercy School.

During her years at OLM, Mrs. DiCarne served as the 7th Grade English Language Arts and Religion teacher, inspiring generations of students with a love of reading, writing, and their Catholic faith. She also faithfully moderated the National Junior Honor Society, encouraging young leaders to embrace the values of scholarship, service, leadership, character, and citizenship.

Rita's gifts extended far beyond the classroom. She was a devoted colleague and friend, always willing to lend a helping hand and offer support to anyone in need. Her kindness, wisdom, and unwavering dedication touched countless lives and helped make OLM a special place for students, faculty, and families alike.

Though she will be deeply missed, Mrs. DiCarne has left an indelible mark on the halls of OLM and in the hearts of all who have had the privilege to know her. Her impact will continue to be felt for years to come through the many students she inspired and the friendships she cultivated.

Rita, thank you for four decades of extraordinary service and for sharing your talents so generously with the OLM community. As you begin this well-deserved retirement, may your days be filled with wonderful books, cherished memories, and precious time spent with your four grandchildren.

Congratulations, Mrs. DiCarne, and may God bless you abundantly in this new chapter. You will always be part of the OLM family.

πŸŽ“βœ¨ Today we celebrated the Kindergarten Class of 2026! βœ¨πŸŽ“

Our kindergarten students shared the story of their year through delightful songs and stories, reflecting on all the memories they made along the way. Their journey began back in September, meeting their teachers, making new friends, and getting to know the beloved Letter People who joined them each week.

They proudly recalled special celebrations, their trip to Merrymead Farm, and all the fun they had in art, music, library, Spanish, and technology classes. From journaling and center time to learning, laughing, and growing together, it has been a year filled with discovery and joy.

Congratulations to our Kindergarten Class of 2026! We are so proud of all you have accomplished and can't wait to see the wonderful things you'll do next year! Have a great summer! πŸ’™πŸ“šπŸŽπŸ˜ŽπŸ‘
