Today our STEM students explored light energy and shadows through hands-on learning with magnetic tiles! As the time of day changed and sunlight streamed through the windows, students observed how their tower creations made different shadows on the floor.

Using teamwork, responsibility, creativity, and problem-solving, students worked together to build towers and test how light interacts with their designs. This activity also strengthened their understanding of geometric shapes, spatial reasoning, and engineering concepts as they discovered how the size, shape, and position of their towers affected the shadows they created.

At EcoSTEM Academy, even play becomes meaningful learning as students investigate, create, and think like young scientists and engineers.

Place Value in Action!
At EcoSTEM Academy, we believe children learn best when they can touch it, build it, move it, and see it!
In this first and second grade math activity, students use a spinning wheel to generate random numbers, then place each digit into its correct place value house: Hundreds, Tens, and Ones.
They’re not just memorizing numbers ,they’re learning to identify digits, understand their value based on their position, build numbers, and explain their mathematical thinking.
Hands-on manipulatives make abstract math concepts concrete, engaging, and meaningful. This is the kind of active, student-centered learning we love at EcoSTEM!

STEM in Action at EcoSTEM Academy!

Today, our upper elementary students put their knowledge of electricity to work by brainstorming, designing, and building their own electrical circuits using batteries, fans, sensors, light bulbs, and switches.

Once their circuits were working, they created hands-on learning stations and invited our lower elementary students to participate in the experiments. Our older students became the teachers.explaining how the circuits worked, demonstrating what they created, and helping their younger peers explore electricity firsthand.

One of the best ways to truly retain new information is to teach it to someone else, and today our students did exactly that!

At EcoSTEM Academy, we believe young learners should understand where electricity comes from and how it works,
Our students are not just reading about it, but by building, experimenting, problem-solving, and collaborating.

Math in Action at EcoSTEM Academy!

Our 1st and 2nd graders are building a strong foundation in place value by using hands-on base-ten blocks and manipulatives to represent whole numbers up to 500!

Students didn’t just build their numbers,they teamed up with classmates to compare numbers, determine which number was greatest, and explain WHY. This helps students understand that the value of a number depends on the hundreds, tens, and ones, student are not just memorizing which number is bigger.

At EcoSTEM, we believe math should be something students can see, touch, build, discuss, and understand.

I arrived home from the hospital today to so many packages for EcoSTEM Academy, and I am truly overwhelmed with gratitude. 📦
