With the rainy weather behind us, I took a group up to the hills at Carnegie (Northern California) to do some tick surveillance. The scenery was beautiful - look at those golden hills and gorgeous clouds! For several of them, it was their first time “ticking” and I loved getting to be the one to introduce them to it!

We collected Dermacentor occidentalis (American dog ticks) and Ixodes pacificus (Western black-legged tick). These ticks will then be tested in the lab for disease pathogens such as the causative agent of Lyme disease.
