Happy Disability Pride Month!
This celebration and advocacy event commemorates the signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) on July 26th, 1990, and has been an official designation since 2015.
The purpose of Disability Pride Month is to celebrate people with disabilities, their identity, and their contributions to society, and to change the way people think about and define disability.

The words, “pride month” may create some confusion, as people learning about this event for the first time might conflate this celebration with LGBTQIA+ Pride Month, observed in June. While some people may hold intersecting identities as both LGBTQ+ and disabled, the events are separate and distinct.

It is estimated that 1 in 4 adults in the United States has been diagnosed with some type of disability A formerly able-bodied person can become disabled at any time.
