Discovery School An adventure in learning! Discovery School is an independent school located in Mansfield, Ohio. Please call or stop by for a tour!

We are an authorized International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program (PYP) school. We provide the surrounding area families with an alternative education to public school. Our school maintains small class sizes so that we can offer hands on, student-centered, differentiated instruction to inspire all children to become life long learners! Our school day for our Kindergarten through 6th grade students is from 8:20-3:20 Monday - Friday. Our Preschool and Prekindergarten students join us for half days from either 8:30-11:30 or 12:30-3:30 for two, three, or five days a week.

From energetic playtime to confident young learners in the classroom! 🌲✨

Our first graders have grown so much since the start of the year, asking big questions, exploring our wooded campus, and showing us what it truly means to be curious, caring IB learners.

In an IB community like ours, learning extends far beyond textbooks. When our older students mentor their younger peers, they aren't just sharing a story—they are actively putting IB Learner Profile attributes into practice:

☺️ Caring: Building confidence, empathy, and patience.
🗯️ Communicators: Tailoring their language to guide and encourage a younger partner.
🌟 Reflective: Reinforcing their own fundamental skills by explaining them to someone else.

For our kindergartners, it fosters a sense of belonging and shows them what future growth looks like. For our 2nd graders, it sparks ownership and pride in their learning journey.

Together, they prove that we are always stronger—and smarter—when we learn as a community! 🎒💙

✨ Yesterday’s 6th-grade-led assembly was another wonderful weekly gathering, bringing incredible IB student agency, creativity, and leadership to the stage:

🌟 The Riveting Interview: Rapunzel took the mic for an exclusive Q&A with Mr. Kevin.
🌟 The Crowd Favorite: Briana stole the show with her iconic Lost and Found Fashion Show—modeling every single misplaced item (including a lost find from 1st grader Coraline) and leaving the entire room in stitches!
🌟 Community Leadership: Adam and Omari did a fantastic job anchoring our weekly Howl-Outs to celebrate our outstanding peers.
🌟 Unscripted Talent: We wrapped up with an impromptu showcase featuring 5th grader Gracie’s impressive high kicks and 3rd grader Jace sharing his awesome artwork.

Tiny boots, huge smiles, and endless curiosity! 🎨✨

Our preschoolers—the youngest members of our Discovery Wolfpack—are off to a great start this school year. From building towering block towers to sharing crayons and asking big questions, these little thinkers are learning what it means to be caring, reflective, and open-minded risk-takers every single day.

Sixth grade is taking agency with our Friday school assembly this year, creating a closer sense of school community and ending our week with laughter! 🌟 Yesterday, Amira was the hostess while Adam announced summer birthdays, Rapunzel interviewed Mrs. Shepherd for her Tonight Show Knock-off and Briana held a lost and found fashion show to help students find their missing items of the week! Have you seen our beautiful new mural in the cafeteria done by our very own, very talented Emily Volz? 🎨

“I always feel humbled when given the chance to 'make my mark' this way, it's a huge amount of trust being put in me. To put it simply, I love art, creating it, talking/teaching about it, and the fact that it can be used to beautify a space and change the way the room feels. With AI all around us, putting artists out of work everyday. Some people would have chosen wallpaper with a computer designed image on it to brighten up the space. I already feel lucky to work with a board that wanted a hand painted mural in the first place, the fact that I am the artist they thought of just makes me feel really grateful”, she said, when asked about the mural project.

We are rooted in kindness 💙 at Discovery School. Thank you for the beautiful addition to our building, Miss Volz.
