It's that time of year again - 2026 CASSH Con - where we invite our political science alumni back to offer some sage advice to our current Commonwealth University-Mansfield students!

Anna Duncan ('24) is in her 3rd year of law school at the Thomas R. Kline School of Law of Duquesne University, and she will be featured on our Pre-Law Panel, which meets on Tuesday, Oct 20 from 9:30-10:45 am in 102 Elliott Hall.

Debbie Jennings ('17) is a senior policy analyst at the National Taxpayers Union Foundation, and she will be on our Political Science Panel, which meets on Wednesday, Oct 21 from 1-1:50 pm in 121 Elliott Hall.

Alumni panelists from all three Commonwealth University of Pennsylvania campuses will Zoom in and share their experiences. It's a great opportunity for current students to network, ask questions, and learn more about prospective careers.

We are grateful to Ali Soufan ('94) and The Soufan Center for the invitation. Ali spoke to our students during the event and shared fond memories of his time at Commonwealth University-Mansfield. To be at Ground Zero on the eve of the 25th anniversary of 9/11 for this incredible gathering of counterterrorism experts was an experience our students will never forget.

Four CU-Mansfield honors students, Eli Kaufman, Tabbitha Piper, Dallas Schultz, and Annabelle Woodburn, and two political science professors, Drs. Jonathan Rothermel and Jeff Bosworth, attended the annual Global Summit on Terrorism and Political Violence in New York City from September 9-10.

140 people came to hear about the events from 25-years ago. Mark Thompson (FBI Special Agent, ret) provided context and understanding to 9/11, especially to our Commonwealth University-Mansfield students who were born long after 9/11. Thank you, Mark! Never forget.

This summer, Commonwealth University-Mansfield political science major, Annabelle Woodburn (‘26), has been interning at the Tioga County District Attorney's Office in NY under the supervision of Mansfield alumna, ADA Lillian Hines Reardon (‘14). Annabelle shadowed attorneys, reviewed cases, attended court, conducted interviews, and researched cases. It was an awesome hands-on experience! Annabelle plans to attend law school following graduation.

This past semester, Cassidy Clarke ('27) was awarded the annual JBJR Scholarship ($500). Cassidy is an honors student from Philadelphia. She is majoring in political science and criminal justice, and she plans to attend law school after graduation.

The Mansfield University Mountaineer Foundation JBJR scholarship was created by Drs. Bosworth and Rothermel to support outstanding political science majors. It is funded by them, political science alumni, and supporters. Congratulations to Commonwealth University-Mansfield, Allyson Lewis, who is our newest political science grad. She hails all the way from Maine! While a student here, she studied abroad in Finland and was a student athlete (cross country and track). Best of luck as she pursues her next adventure!

They heard updates from Commissioner Rice, Commissioner Nickerson, PA State Senator Yaw, and PA Representative Owlett.
