There's been a lot of cool things going on here at JKSA. Over the weekend, several of our learners participated in the district UIL and took home 56% of all medals given. The Innovators of the month for January were recognized by the district as well. Our community Environmental Science class worked on their "plastics project," and learners learned about opportunity cost in Personal Finance. In 6th-grade Math, learners labeled slope in their names, and in 7th-grade Science, learners represented natural selection while playing a survival game. We would like to thank Lockheed Martin for allowing our learners to participate in their engineering challenges. Now, let's celebrate the end of the six weeks with a nice, long 4-day weekend!

This week, several of our learners from each grade level participated in the district Science Fair! All four of the groups placed and will advance to regionals at UTA in February. Congratulations, learners. We are so proud of you all. To all our families, thank you for supporting our learners and what we do here at JKSA. Please stay safe and warm this weekend.

Many great things are happening here at JKSA this new semester. 6th-grade learners explored how Ancient Greece influenced modern architecture in Social Studies. In Design Time, they rotated through stations, participated in a Model UN, and visited with guest speakers from Carollo to learn about the source of Mansfield's water. 7th-grade learners taught other learners about stars and applied the characteristics of an argument using the game Apples to Apples. In Texas History, they reviewed the causes of the Texas Revolution with the game "word sneak" and used pictures to share opinions on whether Texas was justified in rebelling against Mexico. Lastly, our CES class got busy planning a park trash bash, and our Flight and Space class tested paper airplanes outside. If this is how the semester starts, I can't wait to see what else is in store for the second semester. Enjoy a nice, long three-day weekend!

We may have had finals to take and projects to make, but that didn't stop our fun! The 6th grade had their "Food Truck Festival" to wrap up their PBL, and they also shared their revenues and profits from that simulation. 7th grade also wrapped up their "Raise the Grade" PBL with presentations. Finally, we wrapped up the week today with Holiday Themed Hive Day games, activities, performances, and our annual Winter Party, filled with delicious treats. We hope everyone has a fun and safe break. See you all next year!

It has been a busy week here at JKSA. 6th-Grade learners worked on building prototypes of food trucks for their "Food Truck Frenzy" PBL and explored density through hands-on stations in Science. In 7th-Grade, learners launched their space unit and did an activity over spectroscopy in Science. 7th-grade learners also used mini shipping containers to look at arrangements for "clients." In biology, 8th-grade learners performed a lab on gel electrophoresis.
After all that hard work, we are ready to put on our dancing shoes for the winter dance tonight! See you there from 5:00pm-7:00pm!

What an amazing last week before break. This week 6th-grade learners participated in a "Raffle Square 100, Review Game" in Math and planned and sketched their Food Trucks for the "Food Truck Frenzy" PBL. We also celebrated the end of our successful fundraiser with a designer inflatable race, haircuts and hair dyes, goat kissing, pies in the face, and so much more! We are so thankful for these learners and even more thankful for the upcoming break. We will see everyone back on December 1st.

We had a lot of fun on our school-wide field trip day. 6th Grade went to Arlington Skadium, 7th Grade went to Ally Cats, and 8th Grade went to Frontiers of Flight. It is so much fun to see STEM incorporated in ways we wouldn't expect. Our learners had a blast!

What a week! Learners were working on many projects for multiple classes. Forensics completed a blood splatter experiment, flew kites for Flight and Space, and 7th grade prototyped for their National Park Tectonic Hazard PBL. We have had so much fun this week! Stay tuned for more pictures from our Field Trips and Glow Party.
