Reiki Institute of Austin

Reiki Institute of Austin Thank you for finding us on FaceBook! The Reiki Institute of Austin offers a welcome space where Reiki is both practiced and taught.

The Reiki Institute of Austin was founded in 1998 by Joseph Meador, PhD, as a not-for-profit, educational foundation for both practicing and teaching traditional form Usuian Reiki. Since our first Reiki class offerings, our students have come from a variety of backgrounds, including: teachers, university professors, health care therapists, massage and body workers, energy workers, etc. All serious

minded Reiki students, or Reiki teachers, are welcome to attend classes, workshops, and Reiki shares as scheduled. Since its founding, by Joseph Meador, PhD, the Reiki Institute of Austin has facilitated both the practice and teaching of traditional form Reiki without regard for the personal financial circumstances of dedicated students.

🙏🏼❤️ ⛩ Over the past two decades, a number of studies have shown that Reiki treatments help diminish the negative side effects of chemotherapy, improve surgical outcomes, regulate the autonomic nervous system, and dramatically alter people’s experience of physical and emotional pain associated with illness. But no conclusive, peer-reviewed study has explained its mechanisms, much less confirmed the existence of a healing energy that passes between bodies on command. Nevertheless, Reiki treatment, training, and education are now available at many esteemed hospitals in the United States, including Memorial Sloan Kettering, Cleveland Clinic, New York Presbyterian, the Yale Cancer Center, the Mayo Clinic, and Brigham and Women’s Hospital.

🙏🏼💚 Reiki’s growing popularity in the U.S.—and its acceptance at some of the most respected American hospitals—has placed it at the nexus of large, uneasy shifts in American attitudes toward our own health care. Various non-Western practices have become popular complements to conventional medicine in the past few decades, chief among them yoga, meditation, and acupuncture, all of which have been the subject of rigorous scientific studies that have established and explained their effectiveness. Reiki is the latest entrant into the suite of common additional treatments. Its presence is particularly vexing to naysayers because Reiki delivers demonstrable salutary effects without a proven cause.

The energy therapy is now available in many hospitals. What its ascendance says about shifts in how American patients and doctors think about health care.

From Johns Hopkins to several cancer centers, Reiki is steadily gaining presence in top hospitals. More hospitals are offering Reiki in addition to their treatment plans because the patients are asking for it!! So if you believe and know energy healing modalities like Reiki can help speed up your recovery process, ASK. Bring it to your doctors attention, you never know what additional help you can get. I found that a lot of nurses are actually spending their own money to get Reiki certified, attuned and educated to better help their patients.
Reiki has become recognized as a valuable treatment of pain management and symptom relief in hospice and palliative care. Even the prominent cardiovascular surgeon, Dr. Mehmet Oz has seen the benefits of Reiki in his patients. He has invited Reiki practitioners to treat patients during open heart surgeries and heart transplant operations. Dr. Oz says, "Reiki has become a sought-after healing art among patients and mainstream medical professionals."

REIKI (Ray-Ki): According to Robert Graham, MD, a Harvard-trained, board-certified Doctor of Integrative Medicine, who runs the Integrative Health Clinic, FRESH MED, Reiki is both safe and helpful—as long as it’s used as a complementary medicine.

But wait…what is it?

“Frankie Martucci is 13. For the past three years, he has kept a familiar nighttime ritual in his Upper West Side bedroom. Rather than scrolling Instagram or watching TV before bed, the teenager lies on his back, then places his hands on his head, stomach, and torso. Martucci practices reiki, a touch-based healing technique.”

New York teenagers are overscheduled and overstimulated, leading parents to try out reiki as a possible solution to their offspring’s stress.
