Learning doesn’t always look like sitting at a table with a pencil in hand.
Sometimes literacy looks like carefully arranging painted rocks until the letters spell your name. Sometimes it starts with drawing your favorite parts of nature with chalk.
Sometimes geometry begins with a conversation about spiders, and suddenly a patch of bare ground becomes a canvas for lines, shapes, patterns, symmetry, and elaborate webs. 🕸️
At Homegrown, we don’t separate “learning” from the rest of childhood.
Letters are things to build, move, trace, notice and play with.
Math lives in patterns, measurements, recipes and construction.
Science is growing in the garden, crawling on a tree trunk and spinning between two branches.
Writing can happen with a pencil—but a stick works pretty well, too.
Because when children are given meaningful reasons to use what they’re learning, those skills become more than something they practiced and performed for an adult.
They become part of how children understand, explore and interact with the world around them.
The learning is everywhere.
You just might have to look beyond the worksheet to see it. 🌱
