On this day in 1996, Bantam Spectra published a novel by George R. R. Martin called, "A Song of Ice and Fire", which he said was inspired by the War of the Roses, The Accursed Kings, and Ivanhoe.

This highly popular book series, later turned into an even more popular HBO series, sits at a volume count of five but is slated for seven.

Edit: Hello! We need to make an edit to the calendar really quick-like -- the Hooks, Needles, and Friends group will meet on Saturday Aug. 8th NOT the 15th as stated on the calendar. They meet the second Thursday and Saturday of the month and August happens to have those days really weird. Like, today is the first day of August? What? Where did July go??

With the last few months packed with fun activities and exciting events, we are slowing down in August. Still, there are a few dates of activities to watch out for. Story-time and Lego Club will return on September 1st.
