Lessons with Emilia 🎹🎶 We are continuing our work through Czerny’s Op. 299 études. We first drilled many challenging parts, and in this video tried to play it at a quicker tempo to check where the “ouchy” or mistakes still happen. I don’t recommend running through études and exercises mindlessly over and over again - work in slow tempo while listening and intoning the notes. Then try sections faster and see what still is making you stop or pause ✨🐝🎶🎹🎉

Really enjoyed listening to 9-year-old Clara, a student of Irina Gorin, whose lessons I’ve been following since she was a tiny kid. It’s so true that our technique and ability to intone and to audiate music should work together to create a beautiful, expressive sound on the piano. I hear many teachers use the words “play musically,” but truly it takes more than that during the training. First, we learn the language of music and learn about life around us - feelings, moods, colors, timbres, attitudes, etc. Then we build the technique, as you would train to dance ballet 🩰, to allow your whole body to participate in meaningful movement, to learn about efficiency and control. And most importantly - how do we LEARN to listen to ourselves from the outside, while anticipating what comes next in the phrasing and color in our pieces? The FUN comes when you master becoming one with the music and not be afraid to speak its language 🎶🎹🎉✨✨
