Simulation.Collaboration.Compassion 💙💙 During Su***de Awareness Month the Maverick Family Nursing Simulation Center had the privilege of bringing together an incredible interprofessional team for an Adolescence Suicidal Ideation Simulation focused on recognizing risk, responding with compassion, and working together to keep young people safe. This simulation brought together professionals from across Mayo Clinic Healthsystem including: emergency and trauma physicians, nurses, nurse practitioners and physician assistants, and security. It also included our university partners from the Center for Rural Behavioral Health at Minnesota State University, Mankato. Through simulation-based education, participants had the opportunity to practice more than clinical skills. They practiced communication, teamwork, de-escalation, risk recognition, trauma-informed care and coordinated decision-making in a safe learning environment. Most importantly, this experience reinforced an important message, su***de prevention is everyone’s responsibility. When healthcare professionals, behavioral health experts, security teams, educators, and community partners learn with and from one another we strengthen the system surrounding patients and families, especially in rural communities were access to behavioral health resources can be challenging. Simulation creates a space to practice the difficult conversations before they happen in real life. 💙 We practice together so we can respond better when it matters most. 💙 ***deAwarenessMonth
