Lakeshore Tae Kwon Do

Lakeshore Tae Kwon Do Lakeshore Tae Kwon Do is a Martial Arts Education Center that specializes in providing the best Tae Kwon Do training the area. Mr.

The school has been serving Manitowoc and the surrounding area for over 45 years. Lakeshore Tae Kwon Do specializes in providing the best martial arts and character building programs in Manitowoc, WI, for children and families from ages 4 years old and older. Our school teaches not only the skills of physical self-defense, but seeks to broaden the definition of what self-defense is and make it mor

e relevant to today’s world. Presentations on diabetes awareness, picking good roles models, healthy diets, environmental projects and bullying prevention are examples of some of the areas our school considers relevant self-defense topics. Although our students and instructors practice the physical skills of martial arts daily, Lakeshore Tae Kwon Do isn’t just about kicking and punching. It’s about millions of acts of kindness, of leadership and patience, of community, friendship, and everything our teachers at the school share with our students.

Mr. Mark Weber is the founder and instructor of Lakeshore Tae Kwon Do. He holds a 7th Degree Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do, has attained Certified Instructor Levels in four different styles of Inayan Eskrima (a Philippine martial art), and is a Black Belt Instructor in Japanese Style of Kodenkan Danzan Ryu JuJitsu. He runs the school with his wife, Erica, who teaches the 4-6 year old class, and they employ one long time student (of 22 years) as an assistant instructor. Together our instructors have over 80 years combined experience. Our school has been at its current location at 823B Jay Street for the last 14 years. The facility has undergone many improvements in recent years. Our facility features two classrooms, a nice seating area for spectators, top quality matted floor, an extensive assortment of targets and training equipment for classes, and a new audio/video system capable of larger presentations. Lakeshore Tae Kwon Do’s longevity is due to our instructors’ commitment, the schools and its students dedication to serving the community, and a whole lot of students during the last three decades. In 2016, Lakeshore Tae Kwon Do was awarded the Lake Michigan Champions of Conservation Community Organization Award for their community-minded assistance with beach clean ups with the Friends of the Manitowoc River Watershed. The school has also participated in many local and national fundraising, educational, and charitable events including: The United Way Kickoff, Red Cross, shoe drives for Soles4Souls and Think Kindness, Salvation Army Bell Ringing and food drives, St Jude Children’s Hospital, Crime Prevention Day and National Night Out, Tom Drill’s Showtime, Lakeshore Weekend for Kids benefiting the Children’s Hospital, and hundreds of demonstrations for local events and organizations. Weber also volunteers many hours in area schools in physical education programs and after school programs like the Jefferson Elementary Community Learning Center Grant Program. In 2018 he was awarded Master Instruct of the Year by the United Taekwondo Alliance. The school has raised 10,000’s of dollars for local charities and received many awards. Lakeshore Tae Kwon Do is an institution in the community, and a school with a whole lot of experience under its belt.

What can happen when a 9-year-old sticks with Tae Kwon Do?

On April 24, 1996, 9-year-old Nichole Cogswell began Tae Kwon Do at Lakeshore.

Thirty years later, she's still here.

We've had the privilege of watching Nichole grow from a young beginner into a confident and responsible adult, an instructor, and eventually a 6th Degree Black Belt.

But the rank is only part of the story.

Nichole has spent years helping teach and encourage the students coming up behind her. She's become a leader at Lakeshore, in her career, and in our community.

She has also helped lead many of our community-service projects, including organizing Kick for a Cure, which has raised tens of thousands of dollars over the years to help local cancer patients.

That's one of the special things about teaching Tae Kwon Do for more than 45 years. Sometimes you get to see where the journey leads.

A 9-year-old walks through the door to learn Tae Kwon Do...

and years later, she's helping teach the next generation.

We're very proud of you, Miss Cogswell.

🔍 BEHIND THE SCENES

A Day in the Dojang

Ever wonder what a day here actually looks like?

☀️ Morning — Instructors review class plans and set intentions for who they want to be for their students today.

🥋 Afternoon classes — Little Dragons running, laughing, learning to bow. The energy is electric.

🌙 Evening sessions — Advanced students drilling forms, partners pushing each other, the kind of focused silence that only happens when people are truly in it.

🧹 End of day — Students help clean the mat. Always. Because respect for the Dojang is part of the training.

This is what we live for. Every. Single. Day.

The Adult Beginner

"I thought I was too old to start."

One of our favorite things is watching an adult walk in for the first time — a little nervous, maybe a little self-conscious — and watching them realize: this is exactly what I needed.

Adults train for different reasons. Stress relief. Fitness. Self-defense. Or simply to prove to themselves that they can still learn something new.
Whatever brought you here, we promise you'll leave with more than you came with.

🥋 You are NEVER too old to start.

🌟 45 years. 100+ five-star reviews. And counting.

If Lakeshore Tae Kwon Do has been part of your family's story, we'd love a quick favor while I'm off the mat recovering from my medical leave — leave us a review on Google or Yelp.

It takes 30 seconds and helps other Manitowoc families find the real thing instead of driving to Green Bay or Appleton.

Thank you for 45 incredible years. This community built this school — let's show it. 🥋🙏

One activity can work for kids, teens, and adults because the real win isn’t just the workout. It’s the structure, the confidence, and the shared rhythm families can actually keep.

That’s why martial arts fits so well for busy households. One class can meet people where they are, while still giving everyone something to grow into.

🥋 45+ Years. One Family. Countless Black Belts.

Since 1980, Lakeshore Tae Kwon Do has been Manitowoc's home for building confident, respectful, disciplined kids and adults — not just great kickers.

Founded by Master Mark Weber (8th Degree Black Belt) and built alongside instructors with 100+ combined years of experience, our school isn't about trophies first. It's about character first: discipline, humility, patience, and respect that carry off the mat and into life.

From anti-bullying seminars to Kick-a-Thons that have raised tens of thousands for cancer research, from Grand Master seminars to Black Belt candidates earning it the hard way — this is a school built on community, not shortcuts.

45 years serving Manitowoc. Still going strong.

You do not need to feel ready to start training.

Most beginners think they need confidence first. In reality, confidence usually shows up after the first few classes, once the routine starts to feel familiar.

That first step is often the hardest part. After that, it gets easier to show up, listen, and build from there.
