Manitowoc County Youth Apprenticeship

We are currently in need of more people to act as local Area Representatives and Host Families for our organization in your area. An Area Representative should be someone who is interested in promoting communication between cultures, who enjoys aworking with teens, and who likes helping others. The ideal candidate should be at least 26 years old, energetic, and well-organized. An Area Rep is considered a part-time paid volunteer and receives a stipend of roughly $700-$1000 for each foreign exchange student they place and supervise in their area. World Heritage provides all materials to the local Area Rep and training and back-up support are continuously provided. We are also seeking host families for the 2018-2019 school year. By opening up your heart and your home as a host family, you will be giving an exceptional young person the opportunity of a lifetime. In return, your World Heritage Exchange student will bring a fresh new outlook on life and a bit of his or her native country into your home. It is truly the meeting of two cultures – not as a tourist but as a “family” – learning from each other and living together. Please feel free to forward this to anyone that you feel might be interested in either opportunity or to print it and post it on a bulletin board. I would be glad to speak with anyone who might have an interest in the program. You can reach me at 262-676-1230 or via e-mail at: [email protected]. To find out more about our organization log onto Please help us promote world peace—one student at a time!

Manitowoc County Youth Apprenticeship integrates school and work based learning to give students occupational and employability skills. Youth Apprenticeship is a 1 or 2 year program that combines classroom instruction with mentored on-the-job learning for high school juniors and seniors.

Mission: Youth Apprenticeship (YA) integrates school-based and work-based learning to instruct students in employability and occupational skills defined by Wisconsin industries. Local programs provide training based on statewide youth apprenticeship curriculum guidelines, endorsed by business and industry. Students are instructed by qualified teachers and skilled worksite mentors. Students are simultaneously enrolled in academic classes to meet high school graduation requirements, in a youth apprenticeship related instruction class, and are employed by a participating employer under the supervision of a skilled mentor.

Manitowoc Lincoln High School

We proudly recognize and celebrate our Lincoln Youth Apprenticeship students! Tonight would have been the End-of-Year Celebration Night for these students, their parents, and their worksite mentors.

We honor the hard work of these dedicated students who spent hundreds of hours working, learning, and gaining experience in a career area. We also honor our workplace mentors, whose support and encouragement are what makes the YA experience so special.

Senior YA students received a graduation honor cord in the colors of purple and silver, to signify excellence in career and technical education. Display it with pride!

YA students, we are so proud of you!

Welcome! You are invited to join a webinar: Job Searching Support for High School Students. After registering, you will receive a confirmation email about joining the webinar.

Good Afternoon-I hope this email finds you well and by now you have adjusted to a new way of doing school.I wanted to provide you with an update on the Youth Apprenticeship program as of today Monday May 4th, 2020.

**Given our current situation I also highly encourage students and parents to start to seeking out their own placement for YA. You and/or your parents might have a connection to someone who has done or would consider doing the YA program. If you find an employer willing to learn more about YA please send us their contact information so we can get them setup for the program and to take you in as their YA student.

A reminder that most of the communications about YA interviews and updates will come through email. These updates and information will be sent to the email addresses listed on your YA application- please let us know if we need to change the email address you have listed on your application.

Students MUST BE IN GOOD STANDING with school progress and grades and remain on track for graduation to be interviewed for the program. While I understand that online learning can be a challenge we want to make sure we are setting all students up for success from here on out.

Please Please be patient with this process as we are working as hard as we can to keep things moving along as best as possible! This will take time given the current status of some employers who have laid off or aren't able to be open due to COVID. If you have specific questions please email us directly and we will answer them as best we can.

I would encourage you (YA applicants) to start to prepare yourself for a virtual or face to face interview. I have attached several resources for you to view- sample interview questions, mock interview, tips on successful interviewing, how to find a job, virtual interviewing tips and tricks, and employability bootcamp- how to be successful on the job.
