A sensory sensitive area for the Manitowoc Holiday parade. 😊

A sensory sensitive area for the Manitowoc Holiday parade. 😊

Have you heard of a Sensory Sensitive Zone in a parade? We learned about it last year when the City of Kaukauna implemented it in their holiday parade.

A Sensory Sensitive Zone is a part of a parade where there won't be loud sirens and flashing lights from parade entries. People with autism, epilepsy, PTSD, and a variety of other conditions can be very sensitive to noise and light; so it's a way for more people to be able to join in the fun of a lakeshore tradition, without the fear of attending!

The Lakeshore Holiday Parade Committee has voted to enact a Sensory Sensitive Zone beginning this year for those watching from S. 12th and Washington Streets to S. 10th and Washington Streets.

What do you think about this idea?
