Flying Pig Farm We are a chemical-free farm in Manitou Springs, Colorado. We grow on the family property of Manitou residents dating back 100 years. Feel free to join!

Established in 2014, we are a chemical-free farm in Manitou Springs, Colorado, focusing on food and nutritional education. Presently we function as a community garden for the Crystal Hills and greater Manitou Springs community, and offer plot rentals and sponsorships. We gather as a community on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays of each month from 10-2 to get dirty doing garden work and share in a potluck meal.

Join local Colorado herbalist Mari, The ThymeKeeper for an Herb Walk as we explore the abundance of plants at Flying Pig Farm in Manitou Springs. Together we will learn about medicinal properties of weeds & garden cultivations. Get ready to use your senses to explore the wonders that the natural world has to offer as we learn how to apply plant wisdom to our daily lives.

Mari Marques-Worden is a Colorado herbalist, educator and artist. She graduated from the Rocky Mountain Center for Botanical Studies in Boulder, CO and has been a practicing herbalist for over 25 years. She is owner of The Thymekeeper, which was once a local herb store in Manitou Springs. She currently resides in the mountains of Florissant where she maintains a small herb shop, greenhouse and classroom. Her passion is teaching common folk medicine to common folk using everyday kitchen ingredients, plants in your backyard and the wild lands around you.

Join Naomi Falk and Mel Williams to forage plant designs and refresh old textiles with cyanotypes in this workshop featuring the natural surroundings at Bear Creek Nature Preserve. Cyanotype is one of oldest and most accessible forms of photography.

An elegant combination of chemistry and botany practices came together to produce the first book of photography. Blueprints were made by layering original architectural designs over cyanotype-treated paper. Join us as we forage for specimens on a nature walk and experiment with this solar print process on different materials. Participants are strongly encouraged to bring a clothing item from home they’d like to transform.

Bug hotels are a great way to invite more critters into your yards or gardens, especially since insects act as pollinators, provide food for other animals like birds, and can reduce common garden foes like aphids.

Not are bug hotels super fun to make, but also super easy! We’ve been using old dresser drawers or bits of salvaged shelving, but you can even use an old shoe box as a frame (as long as it stays covered from the rain/snow). Then, we tightly pack this frame with a variety of materials: toilet paper/paper towel rolls, pieces of cardboard, and dry leaves, twigs, and cones gathered from around the farm. Make sure to create a variety of nooks and crannies so that bugs of all sizes can move in!

Once complete, bug hotels can be hung on a fence, or placed in a tree (preferably facing southeast for lots of morning sun) to await the arrival of their guests!
