Hello from Svalbard! The AAP team has escaped the North American heat wave and landed on the archipelago where summer means 40F (6C). We’ve had a couple of days filming and photographing in the tundra. Food and babies are in abundance. Everyone is eating non-stop before cooler temps prevail and survival becomes paramount. We’ve been in thrall to all these healthy, happy animals and birds! Tomorrow we board the Virgo to sail north in search of bears and glaciers.
We will be out of touch for 10 days but will share our adventures on our return!

Exciting Arctic Arts Project news... during our work in the Svalbard Archipelago documenting some unique ecosystem changes, we had the privilege and honor of collaborating with the new BBC series MAMMALS that is coming soon on screens! Hello friends! We’ve returned to port in Longyearbyen and begin the trek home today. Svalbard is magical, mystical, mysterious and simply, stunningly beautiful. We saw the most amazing animals, healthy and happy, I this place that seems so inhospitable. We ventured up to 82 degrees north latitude and were perhaps, for a moment, the northernmost humans on the planet. This is where sea ice has gone now and where bears, seals and birds follow. The changes here are astonishing. Warming climate has laid a heavy hand on this land. We will share more when we get home!

Svalbard Archipelago 2022
Because this isolated polar archipelago is warming 7 times faster
than nearly anywhere in the world, it gives us the opportunity to understand how changing climate will impact ecosystems in other parts of the Arctic and around the planet. Our team has been on the ground visually documenting the changes in real time with some incredible results. The team at The Arctic Arts Project looks forward to bringing you a new film later this year with the story of Svalbard, “The canary in the coal mine".
