๐Ÿ”ฅ Kitchen Fire Safety in Foods 1! ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿณ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿณ

In Foods 1, students learned how to prevent kitchen fires and burns and what to do in case of a kitchen emergency. Students put their knowledge into practice by safely practicing ways to extinguish a small kitchen fire using a lid, salt, and baking soda.

They timed each method using their stop watch feature on their phone to see which worked the quickest and discovered that all three methods were effective! โฑ๏ธ๐Ÿ”ฅ

Students also learned about the Fire Triangle ๐Ÿ”บ๐Ÿ”ฅโ€”the three things a fire needs to burn: heat, fuel, and oxygen.

A great hands-on lesson in kitchen safety and emergency preparedness! ๐Ÿ‘

We have been busy in Foods 1 classes we preserved sweet corn ๐ŸŒฝ from locally grown Meyer's Produce.

The harvest is a beautiful Peaches and Cream sweet corn with bicolored kernels. Each bite bursts with sweetness! The students on Friday got the opportunity to learn how to quickly cook a Cobb of corn using the microwave. (Photos will be in the next post of the microwaving lab).

Our Culinary Arts students had an amazing field trip filled with local flavor, creativity, and hands-on learning! โ˜•๐Ÿช๐Ÿฅช

We started the day at Roasted where students enjoyed their choice of coffee or tea while learning about the cafรฉ experience and beverage service.

Next, we visited HAPS Ho**ey Tonk, where owner Andria Lord gave students a behind-the-scenes tour and shared insights about running a successful local business and community gathering space.

Students then had the opportunity to learn the art of cookie decorating from Bites of Joy owner Jeanne Bender, who taught them how to decorate custom sugar cookies using royal icing techniques. The students loved getting creative and putting their own artistic touch on each cookie!

To wrap up the day, students ordered lunch and enjoyed spending time together at HAPS Ho**ey Tonk while reflecting on everything they learned.

A huge thank you to Roasted, HAPS Ho**ey Tonk, Andria Lord, Jeanne Bender, and Bites of Joy for providing such a fun, educational, and memorable experience for our students!
