Story telling✨️
So many of my posts lately are of flowers. Not typical birth, doula, midwifery posts... but, actually, the flowers are just that. They represent life ✨️ a little glimpse of happiness, and peace. At least for me that is.
The start of my week was tough, like a lot of women, moms, and just people in general, Im sure could agree. Monday evening, and by evening I mean 9 pm, I got a phone call that I didn't recognize so I didn't answer. Then 2 minutes later it rang again. When I answered, it was a familiar voice from an Amish mom who I had helped deliver her baby 6 wks ago. I encapsulated her placenta afterwards and then brought it to her when I did her 3 day check up. At this postpartum appointment she had mentioned her daughter's stand where she was selling flower arrangements and produce. I told her I'd take a look on my way out. (Now quick back story... I used to do floral design. My first passion. Absolutely loved it.)
As I was leaving I stopped at the stand. The daughters followed me out. When I saw the arrangement I was speechless. I know design. I know what talent looks like. I turned to the younge 14 yr old girl and said, "these are beautiful! Did you really do this?" Her face lite up. She replied, "Yes I did". I told her they were Absolutely beautiful, and to keep doing them. I paid her 20.00 for the arrangement and said my good byes.
So now, back to this phone call... it was her mom calling to tell me she'd be coming in for her 6 wk postpartum check up and her daughter would like to make me an arrangement. I was speachless.... I said, "of course! I'd love one!"
Today, her mom brought 2 arrangements and some produce for me at her 6 wk check up. We talked and realized we were the same age, both had our first child at 19, and our 2nd born are both turning 17 and born two days apart in August. She said to me, " did you know back then that one day you'd be a midwife?" I replied, " I wouldn't have guest in a million yrs that this is where I'd be today, but I'll tell you one thing, the birth of my first child is exactly where it started. Its why I am who I am today."
Birth is where it all began ✨️ So no, Its not just pretty flowers.
