Kansas Oral History

Kansas Oral History Studies show that language is changing all over the United States, but we’ve yet to understand language changes in Kansas.

We would like to talk to you, your children, your parents, and even your grandparents to find out how sound changes across the prairie. This project is just getting started so please contact us if you are interested in lending your voice to the cause! If you decide to help us, we will talk for about an hour in your home or in a public place. Recording oral history embodies the philosophy of mutual engagement. As such, we consider participants to be active members contributing to the project, and we preserve their rights and privacy. However, we also encourage stewardship of Kansas language and history. We partner with the Chapman Center to preserve oral histories for Kansas small towns.
