Mark Ulriksen’s “Kings of New York”
A historic season for the Knicks.

For the cover of the June 1, 2026, issue, the artist Mark Ulriksen wanted to celebrate the Knicks, one of the city’s beloved basketball teams. “Their latest star, Jalen Brunson, belongs with the other greatest Knicks of all time,” Ulriksen said. “It would be quite the matchup if they could, in some alternate universe, all play against each other.”

Jason celebrated his 50th BD with family and friends in Honolulu at cousin Ikaika's beautiful home on the canal. Auntie Mary hosted the fabulous island foods. A well deserved treat for my hard-working son!

Ballet Beginner Chaînés: Turning right, Head is on left shoulder
Basic teaching for my late blooming ballet babies is to know that EVERY movement in ballet requires opposition: send weight and energy in equal and opposite directions. You will always lost balance and control WITHOUT opposition.

2019 Absolute Ballet Beginner: Turning out - not in - works best!
Always remember ballet dancing is based on turning out - actually turning an arm outward/backward. Look closely, and you'll see some students swing an arm forward which then makes them stumble the attitude. Reaching an arm back automatically brings the other arm into position. This is why I emphasize REACHING the supporting arm back when at the barre.

Kadir Nelson’s “Plein Air” Impressions of spring.

For the cover of the May 25, 2026, issue, the artist Kadir Nelson decided to paint a tribute to the city’s budding artists. “I recently spied a young kid walking around town with a sketch pad and a backpack full of art supplies,” Nelson said. “It conjured memories from my youth, and I wanted to honor him and others who are developing their love of the craft.”
